Varsity Graduate Awaiting NYSC Mobilization, Allegedly Raped To Death

A graduate of the department of mass communication, Benue State University, Miss Joy Onoh has been allegedly raped to death in Makurdi while delivering goods to prospective buyers in the town.

It was gathered that the young lady who graduated from the University early March this year, went missing on Tuesday after she was called by a prospective customer to deliver cloth at the Federal Low Cost Housing Estate in the North Bank Area of Makurdi town.

Miss Onoh, who was popularly called Pastor following her godly character, engaged herself in clothing business while waiting to be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC’s one year compulsory service.

According to sources who spoke to DAILY POST, the deceased’s lifeless body was recovered in a bush a day after she was declared missing.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Catherin Anene who confirmed the development to newsmen in Makurdi, said the body was recovered by the police during a search following an alarm raised by the deceased’s family member.

She said, “On October 20, at about 7am, a corpse of a young lady was recovered but before then, a case of missing young lady was reported. The family reported that she had gone out to deliver clothes. So the police started the search.

“On 20th October, 2021, at about 7am, the corpse of the young lady was discovered in a nearby bush at Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, North Bank.

“Her name is Joy Onoh of behind Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, House. The corpse has been deposited for autopsy. For now we have no explanation for the cause of the death but in due time we will communicate you accordingly.”

Customs Intercepts N1.7bn Falsely Declared Goods Across South-West Zone

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has revealed that it intercepted six trailer loads of 50kg rice, 304kg of Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp), 7,900 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, one 40ft container load of used tyres, and other contraband goods worth ₦1.7 billion across the South-West region of the country between 3rd June and 18th July 2025.

Addressing newsmen at the weekend in Lagos, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, explained that a total of nine suspects were arrested in connection with these seizures.

The Customs CG, who was represented by the Assistant Comptroller General of Customs and Coordinator for Operations Whirlwind, Hussein Ejibunu, also added that the Unit recovered a total of ₦95,587,231.47 in underpaid duties within the period under review.

According to the Customs CG, “Distinguished members of the press, esteemed officers and men of the service, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, Ikeja–Lagos.

“We are gathered here today to provide an update on the Unit’s activities and achievements over the past few weeks, particularly our relentless efforts to dismantle smuggling syndicates, curb illicit trade, and disrupt criminal networks operating within our area of responsibility.

“In the past four weeks, from 3rd June to 18th July 2025, the Unit has sustained a high operational tempo across the South-Western states. Our intelligence-led operations have enabled us to proactively intercept smuggled goods, disrupt illicit supply chains, and strengthen border enforcement.

“During this period, a total of 102 enforcement interventions were recorded, leading to the interception of a wide range of prohibited and smuggled goods. Breakdown of major seizures during this period includes: 3,500 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each) – equivalent to six trailer loads; 304kg of Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp); 7,900 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) – in 316 jerry cans of 25 litres each; 54 bags and 20 bales of used clothing; 41 sacks and bags of used footwear; 14 units of used (“Tokunbo”) vehicles; 148 pieces of used tyres; 42 used gas cylinders; 31 units of air conditioning systems; and 95 cartons of frozen poultry products.

“Other notable seizures include one 40ft container with container number TRHU 83907321 fully loaded with used tyres; one 20ft container with number ONEU241369 containing medicaments; two 40ft containers with numbers MSKU 4796036 and MAEU 9205708; and one truck with container body conveying used fridges, foreign supermarket items, and used clothes. All the containers were wrongly declared to evade duties.

On arrests and prosecution, the Customs CG stated that, “A total of nine suspects were arrested in connection with these seizures. While some were granted administrative bail, others have been, or will be, handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution.”

On the value of the seizures, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi explained that, “The Duty Paid Value (DPV) of all intercepted items stands at an impressive ₦1,784,432,000.

“The Unit also ensures compliance with import and export regulations. We have continued to scrutinise questionable declarations, correct under-valuations, and issue Demand Notices (DNs) where appropriate.

“Between 3rd June and 18th July 2025, the Unit recovered a total of ₦95,587,231.47 in underpaid duties.

“While we maintain vigilance against smuggling and fraud, the FOU remains a strong partner in trade facilitation. We continue to support legitimate trade through intelligence-driven operations that strike a balance between security enforcement and economic growth, ensuring that lawful traders are not unduly hindered in the process.”

Police Arrest For Sexual Assault Of Minor Leading To Pregnancy

Kebbi State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 11 suspects for allegedly impregnating a 13 years old unsound mind girl in the state.

The Command said that the arrests were made as part of its determination to rid the State of all forms of Gender Based Violence.

This was contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen on Saturday by the spokesman of the command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar.

In the statement, Abubakar said, “The Divisional Police Officer, Shanga, had on 13th July, 2025, acting on credible intelligence, arrested 11 suspects namely: Ibrahim Bakanike, Danladi Nauyi, Danjuma Meli, Ibrahim Dankura, Ibrahim Isiaka, Masta Maishayi, Bello Muhammad, Danjuma Kodo, Aminu Isah, Zayyanu Isah and Ahmed Usman, all ‘m’ of Tungar Giwa village, Shanga LGA of Kebbi State.

“The suspects took advantage of one Sa’ima Dauda ‘f’ aged 13 yrs, who walked around in the village due to unsound mind by giving her money ranging from #200 to #500, lured her severally in different locations and had sexual intercourse with her which resulted to pregnancy and she safely delivered a baby boy on 8th July, 2025.”

The statement added that during the preliminary investigation, all the suspects arrested in connection with the case have confessed to the commission of the crime.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department to intensify efforts in arresting the remaining two fleeing suspects and ensure diligent investigation”

The CP equally reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and speedy investigation of Gender Based Violence cases in the State.

Varsity Lecturer Dies In Company Of Female Student

Mr Olabode Ibikunle, a lecturer at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba, Kogi State, reportedly died on Thursday.

The lecturer, in the Department of Social Science Education of the institution, reportedly dies while in company of one Miss Glory Ojochegbe, of the same department.

But his death has been linked to one Miss Bello Lubabat.

Reacting,, the management of the university, however, dispelled the rumour, stating that investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to his death.

It urged people to wait for the outcome of the ongoing investigation by the appropriate authorities and avoid jumping into unverified conclusion.

The Registrar of the school, Yahaya Alilu, in a statement on Friday, urged the media and the public to refrain from speculation to avoid jumping into false conclusions.

The statement read, “Prince Abubakar Audu, University, Ayingba expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate passing of Mr Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, a lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education.

“His sudden demise in company of Miss Glory Ojochegbe Samuel (24GE2034) of the same department is a tragic and disturbing occurrence that understandably generated public concern and interest.

“The university wishes to state that the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle is currently under investigation by the appropriate authorities.

“We therefore kindly urge the public and the media to refrain from speculations or drawing premature conclusions until the facts are fully established.
