Why I Haven’t Seen My Family Since Leaving Home At 16 – 23-Year-old Singer

Rising Nigerian singer, Blessing Mariam Akiode, better known as Candy Bleakz, has revealed that she absconded from home at 16 to pursue her musical career.

The 23-year-old said she hasn’t set her eyes on her family members since then.

She, however, said she has been communicating with them through telephone.

The ‘Wale’ crooner disclosed this in a recent interview with Wazobia FM, Lagos.

She said she hasn’t returned home because she has not made enough money.

The Chocolate City signee said, “I left home when I was 16. And when I was leaving home, I said to myself, I’m not returning to this house until I achieve my aims. Since then, I haven’t gone home but I communicate with my family [via telephone], and I do send them money.

“But mum, she keeps calling always that she is no longer getting young. Even my siblings who were one and four years old when I left home, are now 10 and 16 years old. So, my mum has been pleading with me to come home and bond with my younger ones.

“But for me, the game is tough. To go home, I still need to go with money. I just feel like this is the same situation with most people in Lagos.”

Kehinde Bankole has emerged as the Best Lead Actress at the ongoing 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Bankole’s win came off her lead role in the movie ‘ADIRE’.

Other contestants in the category include: Segilola Ogidan (Over the Bridge), Lucie Debay (Omen)

Omowunmi Dada (Asiri Ade), Ireti Doyle (The Origin: Madam Koi Koi), Adaobi L. Dibor (Blood Vessel)

Evelyne Ily (Mami Wata) and Funke Akindele (A Tribe Called Judah).

In the male category, Wale Ojo emerged Best Male lead actor for his role in the movie ‘Breath of Life’.

Ojo edged Stan Nze (Afamefuna), Marc Zinga (Omen), Gideon Okeke (Egun), David Ezekiel (Blood Vessel), Richard Mofe Damijo (The Black Book), Adedimeji Lateef (Jagun Jagun – The Warrior) and Gabriel Afolayan (This is Lagos) to win the award.

Comedian Isaac Ayomide Olayiwola popularly known as Layi Wasabi has won the Best Digital Content Creator at the ongoing 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Layi’s content on Medical Negligence saw him nick the award.

Layi mounted the stage, and in his usual hilarious style, entertained the audience at the event while delivering his speech in appreciation of the award.

“Thank you, MultiChoice, for granting me this award among multiple contestants,” he said.

The Best Digital Content category shines a spotlight on the flourishing world of online entertainment, showcasing the talents of creators who have captivated audiences through their entertaining, exciting, and creative content.

Other nominees in this list include “National Treasure” by Adebola Adeyela (Lizzy Jay); “Hello Neighbour” by Elozonam Ogbolu, Lina Idoko, and Jemima Osunde; and “The Boyfriend” by Maryam Apaokagi-Greene

AMVCA: Jagun Jagun Wins ‘Best Costume Design’ As Mami Wata Grabs ‘Best Makeup’

The 10th edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) kicked off on Saturday night with Femi Adebayo’s Jagun Jagun clinching the Best Costume Design title.

Similarly, Campbell Precious Arebamen of ‘Mami Wata’ movie crew won the ‘Best Make Up’ category award.

The make-up artiste defeated Francesca Otaigbe, Hadizat Gambo of Mojiisola movie, Hakeem Onilogbo of Jagun Jagun, and Feyisayo Oyebisi of A Tribe Called Judah.

The award is the first in the series presented by popular TV anchor Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, and Kehinde Bankole.

Speaking to the media, Campbell Precious Arebamen said she was so elated and thanked her director for helping her. She noted that this was her second award at the AMVCA.
