Why UNIMAID Was Renamed After Buhari – Education Ministry

The Federal Ministry of Education on Friday said the University of Maiduguri was named after late former president Muhammadu Buhari as a result of Buhari’s unwavering commitment to education.

This was made known in a statement by Folasade Boriowo, the Ministry of Education’s director of press.

According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu approved the renaming during a special session of the Federal Executive Council convened to pay tribute to the late leader.

The President described Buhari as a statesman whose administration prioritised national security, economic recovery, institutional reform, and anti-corruption.

“The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa CON on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and the entire Nigerian education sector, extends profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for his statesmanlike decision to immortalise the late President Muhammadu Buhari through the renaming of the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, as Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri.

“This announcement was made during a special session of the expanded Federal Executive Council convened by President Tinubu to honour the legacy of the late President Muhammadu Buhari. The President opened the session with a moving tribute chronicling the life and service of the late statesman, particularly highlighting his commitment to national security, institutional reform, economic recovery, and anti-corruption efforts.

“Distinguished national leaders, including the Senate President, H.E. Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; Governors, Ministers, and Heads of Service of Federation paid heartfelt tributes. In a solemn response, Yusuf Buhari, son of the late President, spoke on behalf of the Buhari family.”

The Education Ministry further described the renaming as a symbolic gesture that acknowledges Buhari’s legacy, especially his administration’s efforts in human capital development through initiatives such as the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, the Treasury Single Account, the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, and various social investment schemes.

The statement continued, “The Ministry of Education is deeply honoured that the sector has been chosen as the channel through which the late President’s legacy will be permanently enshrined.”

Dr. Alausa noted, “President Tinubu’s decision reflects not only deep empathy and respect but also a firm belief in education as the bedrock of national development. His commitment to human capital development is unwavering and consistent with the path of national renewal that President Buhari championed.

“This symbolic gesture underscores the administration’s recognition of education as a cornerstone for sustainable development and national identity. The Ministry reiterates its commitment to upholding the values of service, integrity, and excellence that both late President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu exemplify. “

More Trouble At Benin GSM Village As Igbineweka Warns Ojiezele To Stop Parading Himself As Chairman

There seems to be no solution on sight yet in the leadership crisis rocking the Great GSM Village Association, Benin, as chairman of the association, Mr. Odion Jerry Igbineweka, has warned Mr. Michael Ojiezele to stop parading himself as chairman, saying there is no faction in the association.

INFO DAILY had reported that the association held parallel elections few months ago which produced two exco respectively.

But reacting to a recent
event that took place at the GSM Village where Obinna “Obi” Iyiegbu popularly known as Obi Cubana, a Nigerian businessman, socialite, entertainer was hosted by Ojiezele who claimed to be the chairman of the village, Igbineweka described it as impersonation, saying he is the authentic chairman.

Mr. Igbineweka said he has no business with the presence of Cubana at the village but the person who invited him to the event.

Igbineweka added that the said Ojiezele is not the authentic chairman of the Great GSM Village but himself.

According to him, an election was conducted at the Great GSM Village and he was duly elected and sworn in as the chairman of the association this year.

He said the idea of Ojiezele introducing himself to Cubana as the chairman of the GSM Village is criminal and it must not be tolerated in any guise.

He said the current members of the Great GSM Village association are law abiding citizens and will not want to take the law into their own hands with what they witnessed yesterday.

He called on Ojiezele to stop parading and introducing himself as the chairman of the association in any fora.

He further called on the security agencies in the state to wade in and call him to order.

‘His Security Is Not Guaranteed,’ Okpehbolo Warns Obi Not To Come To Edo Without Informing Him

Governor Monday Okpehbolo of Edo State has issued a warning to the Mr. Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, saying he shouldn’t visit the state without informing him (Okpebholo).

In a video, Okpebholo said Obi’s security was not guaranteed should he visit the state without informing him (Okpebholo).

He said the former governor of Anambra State should take whatever happened to him anytime he (Obi) visited Edo without informing him.

Okpebholo spoke in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North East Local Government, while receiving Peoples Democratic defected from the Peoples Democratic Party in Uromi, Edo central

He said he was serious about what he said.

“Whatever that happens to him when he comes to Edo State, he will take it. I’m serious about it.

“He came the other day and donated ₦15m. Somebody wey say E no get shishi, where E for get ₦15m to donate. By the time he left after donating the money, there was a crisis, and three people died in Benin.

“So, for that reason tell Obi he should not come to Edo without telling me.”
