Woman Stabs 12-year-old Girl In Rivers

The Rivers State Police said its men have arrested a woman identified as Abigail for stabbing a 12-year-old girl and leaving the knife in her body in Rumuodara in Ohio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State on Saturday.

It was leant that the girl, simply identified as Oluebube, lives in the compound with the woman, 30, when the latter overreacted over a minor issue.

Narrating the incident to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Saturday, the sister of the injured girl, Olucho, said the woman carried out the act because her sister mistakenly hit her with water at their corridor.

She stated, “My sister was washing plates outside. The woman (Abigail) went and fetched water.

“Because our corridor is dark, the person inside can see somebody outside, but the person outside cannot see the person inside.

“The woman stood there with her water, but she did not tell my sister not to come with the pot to avoid running into her.

“So my sister, unknowingly, entered with the pot and ran into the woman, and both of them fell.

“The woman now started beating my sister. Other neighbours started begging the woman that it was a mistake, but the woman refused.”

Olucho said the woman had ordered her sister to sweep the spilled water, and the former continued fetching the water, and the latter agreed.

So she went back to fetch another water, while my sister continued to wash the dishes and later took broom to sweep the water.

“But as my sister was about sweeping the water out, then went inside and came out with a knife.which she used to stab my sister.

“The head of the knife broke and the knife stayed in my sister’s body.

She said the matter was immediately reported to the police, saying the woman entered her room and fled through the back door.

“But some neighbours caught her and handed her over to the police. My sister is in the hospital now,” she explained.

When contacted, spokesperson of the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-koko confirmed the incident, saying doctors had removed the knife from the injured girl’s body.

She stated, ” The woman has been arrested and is in our custody. She will face the wrath of the law for her actions.

“But we thank God the doctors have removed the knife from the body of the girl and she is responding to treatmemt and investigation is ongoing. ”

Meanwhile, a group, .Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.

National Coordinator of the organization, Prince Wiro urged the police to arraign the suspect in court immediately if found culpable in the course of investigation.

Police Arrest Over 80 Suspects, Recover Guns In Delta

Over 80 suspected criminals have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for various crimes in the last month.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the Command’s headquarters in Asaba, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, said the ongoing war against crimes in the state is paying off following the Command’s achievement in the one month.

Olufemi assured all Deltans to sleep with their two eyes closed, as the ongoing intelligence-led operations would further clamp down on criminal networks across the state.

Olufemi stated, “Deltans can attest to the fact that in recent times, the state has become very hot for criminals. The command under my watch will not relent in this mandate and will continue to go after criminally minded individuals to ensure they are arrested and brought to justice.

“There are multiple armed robbery operations across Asaba, Ughelli, Ogwashi-Uku, and other communities, which led to the arrest of the Suspects and recovery of weapons, including pump-action rifles, Beretta pistols, and double-barreled guns.

“Stolen items such as motorcycles, vehicles, laptops, phones, and household electronics were also recovered. We recovered 31 firearms, 86 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, as well as dozens of stolen vehicles, laptops, and mobile phones within the month of August 2025.”

The police boss also hinted that a 35-year-old man from Edo state was arrested while attempting to sell the vehicles for N2 million each and in Ughelli, operatives apprehended a 52-year-old woman, described as a major drug dealer, along with her apprentices.

“On August 29, 2025, men of the Area Command Ughelli embarked on a Raid of suspected criminal hideouts instead of the campaign against the use of Illicit drugs and its subsequent effects on youths in our society.

The raid was made possible through credible intelligence in relation to the activities of some persons known for drug peddling within Afisere/Ughelli town,” he added.

He said the suspects are a major dealer in illicit drugs in Ughelli and environs, even as a massive cache of controlled substances, including 355 bottles of codeine, hundreds of rolls of tramadol, and Canadian liquid cannabis, was seized.

Olufemi stated that the police also smashed a syndicate that specialised in hypnotising victims, defrauding them of valuables, and looting bank accounts, while two Toyota Camry cars, 16 suspected stolen iPhones, and evidence of fraud amounting to over ₦23.5 million were recovered.

This came barely 24 hours after the Nasarawa State Police Command announced the arrest of nine suspects and the recovery of 4,264 rounds of ammunition in operations carried out across the state’s 13 local government areas.

The state Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Lafia on Tuesday.

Highlighting what he described as a “major breakthrough” in the fight against violent crime, Mohammed said officers recently intercepted a large cache of firearms and ammunition in Keana Local Government Area, following sustained intelligence-led operations.

The police boss assured residents that the command remained committed to dismantling criminal networks across Nasarawa and ensuring safety in all communities.

Police Vows To Arrest Killers of NSCDC Officers In Edo

The Edo State Police Command on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with other security agencies to bring to justice those behind last week’s killing of eight Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of the state.

The operatives, attached to the BUA Cement Factory, were ambushed and killed by suspected kidnappers.

During the attack, a Chinese expatriate was abducted, while four others were rescued. Four additional victims sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, expressed the command’s readiness when he paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to Okpella on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, the CP condemned the killings, describing them as “a dastardly act that will not go unpunished.”

Agbonika commiserated with the NSCDC, assuring that the police were intensifying efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted Chinese national while strengthening security around the cement factory and its environs.

The Edo State Police Command remains steadfast in its duty to protect lives and property and will not relent until criminal elements threatening the peace of the state are identified and made to face justice,” the CP stated.

Tragedy As Traders, Ocha Brigade Clash At Onitsha Market

Tension gripped Onitsha on Tuesday following reports that operatives of the Anambra State government-backed OCHA Brigade allegedly opened fire at the bustling Onitsha Main Market, Emeka Offor Plaza axis, which allegedly left four people, including a pregnant woman, dead.

But the police in Anambra State, which confirmed the incident, stated that one of the female victims died on arrival at the hospital, adding that seven persons sustained injuries from the incident.

They also confirmed that the seven victims who received gunshots have been evacuated to the hospital, adding that normalcy had been restored to the market.

They identified the victims as Ebuka Orakwe (male), Orum Oluebube (male), Anthony Kosisochukwu (male), Ifeoma Ezema (female), Chinwe Igwe (female), 22 years old, and two others, whose names they could not disclose.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Tuesday morning, sparking panic and outrage among traders and residents who fled the scene for safety.

According to reports, the victims, who had merely gone out to earn their daily bread, were shot by armed men allegedly operating for the state government OCHA brigade. The reasons behind the gunfire could not be determined.

A trader had said: “This is heartbreaking. Four innocent people who left their homes this morning have been cut down in cold blood. Among them is a pregnant woman. Anambra people are now living in fear because criminals have been handed guns and uniforms in the name of government enforcement”.

However, confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Command, in a statement by its Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that it swooped in to restore order in the troubled market after receiving a distress call.

He stated that an altercation had ensued between the personnel of the Ocha Brigade, an Anambra State Environmental Law Enforcement outfit, allegedly with some traders, during which seven traders sustained gunshot injuries. He said the incident triggered unrest within the market.

Upon receipt of the report in early hours of today 9th September, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, immediately deployed tactical teams and other security agencies led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, in company of the Area Commander Onitsha, the Divisional Police Officer Main Market, and the Commander of the Anti-Cultism Squad, to the scene.

The Operatives swiftly addressed and calmed the traders, restoring order and dispersing them back to their shops and lawful businesses. The victims of the gunshots were promptly evacuated to a hospital and were identified as Mr. Ebuka Orakwe (m), Orum Oluebube (m), Anthony Kosisochukwu (m), Ifeoma Ezema (f), Chinwe Igwe (f), 22 years, and two others, names yet to be identified.

“Regrettably, one of the female victims was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital. Her body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation. The other victims are currently receiving treatment, have been stabilised, and are responding positively”, Ikenga stated

He added that normalcy had since been restored in the area, while patrols and monitoring continue to ensure sustained peace.
