Oyo State Government has implored youths in the state to be more involved in the political process for the future of the state and the country.
A statement e-signed by the state Commissioner Information, Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun,
a copy of which was made available to INFO DAILY indicates that the call was made by representatives of the state government during the fourth Oyo State Youths Summit held at the ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan over the weekend.
The Commissioner who spoke at the event noted that with preparations for the 2023 elections already afoot, youths have a huge role to play in changing the narrative of leadership across the country by entrenching the needed shift across board.
Olatunbosun said: “For the present administration in Oyo State, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, we are committed to building youths with good character. We indeed call on you to be part of the politics in the State. Get your PVC and act.”
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Seun Fakorede advocated the need for youths to embrace the reality of life and improve themselves in all spheres of life.
He noted that giving them chances at every level of governance and leadership was not enough, but that youths should guard themselves with every needed knowledge to perform in every position they find themselves.
He said: “Our country is drifting today due to poor leadership, therefore, we as youths must equip ourselves with the needed knowledge, so that when we get to these positions, we will perform differently. The only reason you can come on stage is because you have been equipped to lead.”
He implored youths to be ready to use their voting strength to make the necessary change in the nation, stressing that they must not only engage in complaining but be fully involved.

The guest lecturer, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke, in his address opined that youths must be supported to wake up and rise to the challenges against all odds.
He called on the government at all tiers to ensure youths get the needed education, vocational experience into entrepreneurship, and political exposure that will groom them into assuming good leadership roles.
“Groom our youths into assuming good leadership roles without playing errand boys. With such, Nigerian youths would be able to shape and chart a right cause for the free and independent Africa of our dream”, he said.
In his speech, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent Electoral Commission, Barr. Mutiu Agboke challenged youths to get their PVCs, in order to enact their desired change in the coming elections.
He called on them to fight for their place in the Nigerian polity, urging them to demand a reasonable percentage in politics to achieve the change needed.
Agboke decried the rate at which youths wasted their time on social media, rather than working hard to effect changes in the polity.
Highlights of the event was presentation of awards to individuals and organizations who have impacted positively to youths development in the state.

Edo businessman and politician, Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon, has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the only alternative political party to rescue Nigeria from its present ‘pitiable state.’
Imansuangbon spoke on Wednesday at the party secretariat in Benin when he was formally handed the party card by the chairman of the ADC in Edo State, Comrade Kennedy Odion.
Imansuangbon, who was a Labour Party governorship aspirant in the 2024 election in Edo State, said he saw the Labour Party as rescuer but unfortunately turned to be a sharm, stressing that ADC is in tandem with his belief as a person who has the common man in heart.

He said: “Me, I have found an alternative. I have found a credible vehicle. An alternative that is genuinely for change. An alternative that wants to reduce the price of food. An alternative that loves the common man. An alternative that loves the Okada rider. An alternative that loves the widow. An alternative that loves the students. That alternative is ADC.
“Therefore, I call on all well meaning Nigerians to join the moving train. We have decided today to rescue our dear country. This is the vehicle. There is no other train.”
Imansuangbon, who lamented that due to the harsh economic in the country he can no longer distribute rice to Edo people particularly the less privileged as he used to do during Christmas, lamented further: “I’m tired, very tired that a bag of rice that was sold at ₦7,500 some years ago is now being sold for over a ₦100,000. Me, Riceman, I’m tired. I can no longer buy rice to share to the poor people of Edo State. I can no longer share rice to the widow of Edo State. I’m really tired.

“I’m tired because I can no longer buy fuel. Some years ago, fuel was ₦65 per litre, today it’s ₦1000. Nigerians are tired.
“We are tired that our children will graduate, but no work.”
Earlier, the state party chairman, Comrade Kennedy Odion, while describing Imansuangbon as a man of the people, said the ADC, being a moving train, has provided a platform for every Nigerian with the aim of rescuing the country.
Odion, who said the road to rescue Nigeria may be rough but shall surely be a reality, asserted that Nigerians will soon experience a massive exodus to the party.

Two Senators from Akwa Ibom State have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Senators are Sampson Ekong, senator representing Akwa Ibom south, and Aniekan Bassey, the Akwa Ibom north-east.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read their letters of defection during Wednesday’s plenary.
DAILY POST reports that there has been gale of defection from PDP to the ruling APC.
