Again, Gunmen Attack Imo Community Vigilance Group, Raze Operational Vehicle

Gunmen wielding, on Saturday night, attacked operatives of the Abba Vigilance Group and Abba Security Network in the Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo state.
The community security operatives were patrolling the community when the gunmen ambushed them around 10pm.
A community chief, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent on Sunday morning that the gunmen operated with no fewer than ten motorcycles.
The source said that the miscreants came from Okwelle community in the Onuimo LGA, chased members of the vigilance group and shot at their vehicle. The vigilance group members were said to have abandoned their vehicle and fled into the bush.
“The gunmen chased them inside the bush and were shooting repeatedly.
“Frustrated that they could not achieve their aim, they visited their anger on their patrolling vehicle, Sienna Bus and set fire on it,” the source said.
Same night gunmen attacked the Omuma Divisional Police headquarters situated in the Oru East LGA of the state.

Gunmen had the previous night bombed the Umuguma Police Divisional Headquarters in Owerri West LGA, killing two police constabularies on duty, set seven vehicles on fire and freed suspects in detention.
Also gunmen, on Saturday morning, razed the country home of the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor, at Awo-Mmanma in the Oru East LGA of the state.
The police spokesperson for the Command, Micheal Abattam, had yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the attack.

Organ Harvesting: Ekiti Sacks Surgeon After Panel’s Findings, Suspends Support Staff

Ekiti State government has dismissed the Surgeon who had primary responsibility for the surgery of a patient whose kidneys were removed from the service of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) with immediate effect.
This followed the submission of the report of the 7-man investigation panel chaired by Professor Francis Faduyile to the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani.
Recall the panel was constituted 11 days ago to investigate the claim made by a patient, Mr. Joshua Afolayan regarding a surgical procedure he underwent at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).
According to a statement by Filani, “Upon careful review of the report and its recommendations, the Ekiti State government has approved the following actions:

“That the surgeon who had primary responsibility for the surgery is to be dismissed from the service of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) with immediate effect.
“All members of the surgical team present in the theatre on the day of the operation are to be suspended from duty for a period of one month, pending further administrative review.
“The Ekiti State government will bear the full cost of a new kidney transplant for Afolayan, will take responsibility for his post-transplant care as well as transplant related medical maintenance for a period of two years.
“In line with the recommendations of the panel, a comprehensive reorganisation of relevant departments within EKSUTH will be undertaken to strengthen clinical governance, accountability, and patient safety.”

Filani said that while the Ekiti State government continues to stand firmly behind the many dedicated and hardworking health professionals at EKSUTH and acknowledges their sacrifices and commitment to service, it would not hesitate to take decisive action where professional standards are breached.
“The government remains resolute in its commitment to protecting patients, upholding ethical and professional standards in healthcare delivery, and restoring and sustaining public confidence in the Ekiti State health system.
“Necessary reforms will be pursued to ensure that incidents of this nature do not re-occur and that EKSUTH continues to serve as a centre of excellence in patient care.
“We thank the people of Ekiti State for their patience, and trust, and we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to continued improvement in quality health care, compassion, and responsible governance.”

A pregnant woman, Harira Aliyu, has asked a Shari’a court sitting in Rigasa, Kaduna State, to compel her former husband, Nasiru Al-Hassan to provide financial support for her upkeep.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the complainant also prayed the court to confirm one pronouncement of divorce made by Nasiru in March.
“I am eight months pregnant. Since our divorce in March, he has only been able to send me money for two months for my upkeep and our unborn child.
“It is important that he continues to provide for me as I await delivery in a month’s time,” she told the court.

In his defense, the defendant who spoke through his counsel, Abubakar Sani, said he was just briefed recently.
He asked the court to give him more time to respond to the petition.

An Area Court sitting in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, has dissolved the marriage between Ajisegiri Balikis and Saadu Jimoh over unmatched genotype.
The presiding judge, Hammad Ajumonbi, while delivering ruling said held that since both parties had agreed that they were no longer in love with each other, there will be no need for force.
Ajumonbi dissolved their marriage and ordered Balikis to observe three months iddah (waiting) period before she can remarry.
He awarded custody of their two children to Balikis and said that Jimoh has unrestricted access to their children.

The court ordered the respondent to pay N18,000 monthly for feeding and maintenance of the two children and be responsible for their school fees and medical services.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), earlier, Balikis in her petition prayed the court to grant her divorce due to irresponsible behaviour, lack of care, love and trust by her husband.
She told the court that her first child was AS while the second child was discovered to be SS.
“Our second child was always falling sick which prompted me to conduct a test and discovered she was SS.
“The only thing I know is that my parents said that my genotype is AA but I have never done an official test to confirm.

“That is why I told my husband before marriage that my genotype was AA while he told me he was AS,” she said.
She said that since her husband knew about her genotype, he stopped caring for her and the children and hardly gives them money for food and health services.
Responding, Jimoh told the court that he believed his wife when she said she was AA because she was educated and should know better.
“I met her through her aunty. I was angry when I learnt that her genotype is AS because I trusted her.
“I have accepted my faith.
“On October 17, my father-in-law invited me over and told me not to worry. He asked my wife to move out of the house.
“All efforts to resolve the issue failed and my in-law reported me to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps where I was directed to pay N10,000 monthly for children’s feeding,” he said.
