Amnesty International Condemns Attacks On Northerners, Preaches Peace

An international human rights body, Amnesty International, has condemned the recent attacks on northerners residing and doing business at the Sasa area of Ibadan, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Amnesty International further called on Nigerian government to take urgent steps to stop the escalation of violence in the country.

The Organisation, in a series of tweets via its verified account on Sunday called for thorough investigation into the incident which led to loss of lives and property with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The human rights organisation also challenged the Nigerian authorities to rise up to the responsibility of protecting lives and properties of every person in Nigeria wherever such person may reside.

The tweets reads, “Amnesty International condemns the attacks on northerners residing and doing business at the #Sasa area of Akinyele Local Government, #Oyo state. The attacks which led to the loss of lives and properties must be investigated and perpetrators brought to justice. #ProtectAllLives

“The violent incidents in #Oyo and other places must be investigated promptly, independently and fairly. #ProtectAllLives.

We call on the Nigerian authorities to protect the lives and properties of every person in Nigeria wherever they reside. The government must take urgent steps to stop the escalation of violence.”
