Cameroonian Singer Libianca Beats Asake To Best International Act BET Award

Cameroonian-American Afro-beat singer Libianca Kenzonkinboum Fonji, popularly known as Libianca, won her very first BET Award for her break-out single People.

The 2023 BET Awards took place on Sunday night with hip hop’s biggest stars taking home awards for their work over the past year.

Libianca was the first Cameroonian artist to be nominated. She was nominated alongside Pabi Cooper, Asake, Camidoh, Flo, MC Ryan, Raye, and Werenoi for the BET Viewers’ Choice Best International Act.

Meanwhile, after Libianca stole the show at the BET Awards ahead of Asake, many across Nigerian social media space have been reacting to the news of Libanca winning the BET Viewers’ Choice Best International New Act award.

But some have reacted to the development, noting that Asake probably lost the award to Libianca because he sings mainly in Yoruba, his indigenous language.

Nigerian Musician, Damini Ogulu, affectionally known as Burnaboy, won the award for Best International Act.

Burna Boy emerged as the winner as he was nominated amongst the likes of Ayra Starr, Central Cee, Ella Mai, Stormzy, Aya Nakamura, Central Cee, L7nnon, K.O, and Uncle Waffles.

US rapper and singer Latto won the award for Best Female hip hop artist and Coco Jones won Best New artist. Beyoncé’s Renaissance and SZA’s SOS tied for Album of the Year, while Chris Brown and Usher tied for Best Male R&B/pop artist.

While internationally recognised Nigerian singer Burna Boy set a new record at the 2023 BET Awards as the first artist to win the Best International Act four times in a row, no Nigerian artist joined him on the winner’s podium this year.

’ll Never Marry A Nigerian’ – Peller Vows After Breakup With Jarvis

TikTok star, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has vowed never to marry a Nigerian following his messy breakup with fellow Nigerian content creator, Jarvis.

Speaking during a recent livestream, Peller opened up about his encounter with a demure lady from eSwatini, whom he described as his ideal woman.

He explained that the lady is not only beautiful but also calm and collected.

The 20-year-old added that he is ready to go to the Southern African nation and pay the lady’s bride price.

“I recently encountered a lady from eSwatini, she’s not only very beautiful but also calm and collected.

“I will never marry a Nigerian. eSwatini is my new target for finding a wife. I will go to the country and marry that lady. I will give her father 17 cows,” he said.

Peller also warned fans to stop mocking him over his breakup with Jarvis, threatening to block them if they disregard his warning.

Allwell Ademola’s Brother Seeks Iyabo Ojo’s Forgiveness At Sister’s Burial [VIDEO]

The late actress Allwell Ademola’s brother, has publicly apologised to Iyabo Ojo after calling her out for not supporting his sister when alive.

DAILY POST reports that Allwell’s younger brother had earlier dragged actor Lateef Adedimeji, Iyabo Ojo and other Nigerian A-listers for posting pictures of the late actress after her death.

Iyabo Ojo responded, “I over supported your sister when she was alive. I featured in her movies countless times for free.”

However, during the service of songs for the late actress on Thursday January 8 2026, her brother approached Iyabo Ojo and begged her for forgiveness.

While prostrating to beg her, Iyabo Ojo quickly embraced him and said “O ti lo (it’s a thing of the past) to God I have forgiven you.”

Asake Reconciles With Father, Baby Mama After Viral Accusations Of Abandonment

Popular Nigerian musician, Asake, has finally reconciled with his father, his daughter and baby mama.

The reconciliation move came after he was called out online for abandoning them after he became rich and famous.

Asake was heavily criticised earlier in 2025, after his baby mama, Adijat accused him of neglect despite standing by him when he had nothing.

In March 2025, Asake’s father, Fatai Odunsi, who is a stroke survivor, also called him out for abandoning him.

Following the backslash from netizens, including some celebrities, Asake reached out to his father and promised to finance his medical bills and also buy him a house.

However, a trending photo of the singer with his father, which surfaced online on Friday morning, signaled a return to harmony.

This came a few days after Asake reunited with his daughter and his baby mama.
