Enugu APC Suspends Onyeama, Nnamani, Expels Ex-gov Chime, Others

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expelled former governor Sullivan Chime and the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, for alleged anti-party activities.

Also expelled from the party on the same allegation are Mr Flavour Eze, an aide of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and Eugene Odoh, who was the former Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly when Chime was the governor of the state between 2007 and 2015.

The State Executive Committee ratified the expulsion on Thursday, after adopting recommendations of a five-man disciplinary committee that was set up earlier this year to look into petitions and reports of fact-finding committees that investigated allegations of anti-party activities against some members of the party.

The party also suspended the former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Onyeama, from the party for allegedly undermining the party and its activities in the state.

The State Secretary of the party, Dr Robert Ngwu, who read the resolution of the party before journalists, regretted that anti-party activities which these individuals had indulged in over the years can also lead to a loss of support from voters and donors, which he said can harm the Party’s ability to compete in elections and implement its policies.

The Majority Leader of the Assembly, Major Jack, said the decision to impeach the governor and his deputy was based on their alleged persistent violation of the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu.
