Flood: Lawmaker Donates N50 Million To 1000 Victims In Bauchi

The member representing Zaki Federal Constituency of Bauchi State in the House of Representatives, Honourable Mohammed Jatau has donated 50 million naira to 1,000 flood victims in his constituency as part of his relief assistance.
Speaking during the disbursement ceremony at Sakwa District of Zaki local government area of the state, Jatau said apart from his personal donation of the money, he was seeking for additional assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Ministry of Environment to the people affected by flood.
The federal lawmaker said the donation of the money was to complement the efforts of Gov. Bala Mohammed in addressing the plight of the victims through the provision of relief materials so as to cushion the effects of the natural disaster in their economic activities.
“This 50 million naira relief assistance is to support the victims of flood in each ward in my constituency in order to alleviate their sufferings.
“You know my Local Government is among the areas affected by flood which destroyed many houses and farmlands and this kind gesture is to come to the aid of the affected communities in my constituency.
“This is a period where our people are in need of our support and I will continue to do more for my people in appreciation of their support to me.
“I must appreciate His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed for showing concern to us by coming to this local government by himself to assess the level of damage caused by the flood for his Government’s assistance,” he said.
Jatau, who is the deputy gubernatorial candidate for Governor Bala Mohammed in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, also launched the training and empowerment of youth, women on tomato production and processing.
According to him, the training was to empower them to advance their businesses, especially agricultural activities for self-reliance, adding that empowering constituents is key to the success of any lawmaker.
He further expressed his profound gratitude to his constituents for their belief and support to the administration of governor Mohammed and urged them to join hands in the 2023 Kaura/Jatau gubernatorial ticket for the victory of PDP in the state aimed at providing citizens with more dividends of democracy.
On his part, the Bauchi State Chairman of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hamza Akuyam applauded him for his foresight to come up with the financial relief assistance to the flood victims and described it as a timely intervention and a welcome development.

Akuyam, represented by the North-East PDP Treasurer, Shitu Zaki, also sympathized with the flood victims in the area and called for more support to them to improve their living conditions.
“Today, Honourable Mohammed Jatau has made us proud for deeming it necessary to provide this support to his people, we in the party, we are happy with this relief assistance by our federal lawmaker and should be emulated by all.”
In the 2023 general elections, he said with the achievements of Governor Bala Mohammed coupled with the qualities of the party’s candidates and good synergy and understanding among the members, PDP will once again emerge victorious in the outcome of the polls by the grace of Almighty God.
It could be recalled that Dr Ibrahim Kabir, Director-General, Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) recently confirmed the death of 3 persons by flood which damaged 1,453 houses and several farmlands in Zaki and Gamawa local government areas.

JUST IN: Fire Guts Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone In Igbesa

A fire broke out on Sunday at the Ogun State Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa.
As of this report, there has been no official statement on what caused the incident. However, a resident said the fire was triggered by a gas explosion from a foam-producing company in the industrial park.

AAU Postpones Resumption Date

The management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, has approved, on behalf of the university’s Senate, the postponement of students’ resumption and commencement of academic activities.
In a statement,
Otunba Mike Aladenika,
Head, Information, Public Relations & Protocol, AAU, said the decision became necessary to enable the university to complete ongoing renovation works on student structures and facilities, aimed at enhancing the overall teaching and learning experience.
“According to him, the management is committed to providing a conducive environment for academic excellence and believes that this temporary adjustment will ultimately benefit our students.

“While the university management intends to announce a new resumption date, any student(s) still in our hostels are advised to vacate with immediate effect to allow for effective ongoing renovation works
“In light of this development, the university regrets to announce that the 140th Inaugural Lecture, originally scheduled for Thursday, 15th January 2026, and ongoing examinations have been postponed.
“A new date for the lecture and the completion of the examinations will be communicated to all stakeholders in due course.

Protest Rocks Ekpoma Over Incessant Kidnapping

Residents of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State on Saturday protested against incessant kidnappings in the area.
Ekpoma, in recent times has been under attack by kidnappers who snatched residents from their homes.
The protest grounded commercial activities as students of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, also joined in the protest.
The protesters, in anger, also pulled down campaign billboards for the 2027 general elections mounted in the university hosting town.

Speaking on the protest, Principal Security Officer to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Austin Eigbiremolen, assured that adequate security would be deployed to Ekpoma.
According to him, the kidnappers would be chased away from the area in no distance time.
Also reacting to the protest, Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, dismissed was top of the security situation in Ekpoma, adding the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, was already in Ekpoma.
Ikoedem said nine persons who were kidnapped on Friday were rescued unhurt after the Eagle Combat Drone Unit was deployed to the forest alongside local hunters.
“In the heat of the rescue operation, the kidnappers’ camp was located through real-time aerial intelligence.
“The ground troops stormed the camp, forcing the kidnappers to flee and abandon two locally fabricated AK-49 rifles.
“The victims, including five children were rescued unhurt. This landmark deployment underscores the transformative role of technology in modern policing and sets a new benchmark for operational enhancement in Edo State,” she said.
