FULL LIST: Trump, Kamala, Netanyahu, Others Shortlisted For 2024 Time’s Person Of The Year

The shortlist for the 2024 Time’s Person of the Year award has been announced on Monday.

The list which featured 10 candidates under consideration for TIME’s annual designation, was revealed on NBC’s Today Show.

According to information obtained on Time’s website, the award which began in 1927, has been awarded to “a person, group or concept that had the biggest impact— for good or for ill—on the world over the previous 12 months.”

United States President-elect and candidate of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, features on the 2024 shortlist, alongside the US Vice President and Democratic Party’s candidate, Kamala Harris who lost to Trump in the presidential election.

Trump, who survived assassination attempts in the build-up to the elections, has nominated several appointees in his cabinet which will take effect in January 2025.

Among such is tech billionaire and owner of social media website, X (formerly Twitter) – Elon Musk.

The X owner was appointed to serve in the Department of Government Efficiency, alongside American patriot Vivek Ramaswamy.

On her part, Harris had vied to become the United States’ first female president after Hillary Clinton lost to Trump in 2016. However, critics had blamed President Joe Biden for taking too long before withdrawing from the race to the White House, thereby not giving his Vice ample time to drive home her campaign manifesto.

Also featured on the list is embattled Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu who’s been accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes by the International Criminal Court for its war against Gaza — sparked by Hamas’s attacks on October 7, 2023.

Another prominent person on the list is tech billionaire and the Chief Executive of Meta — Mark Zuckerberg.

The winner will be announced on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

Popular American Actor, Joe Marinelli Dies Of Stomach Cancer

Joe Marinelli, popular American actor, known for his roles in ‘The Morning Show’ and other television series, is dead.

Joe Marinelli reportedly died last Sunday at age 68 after a long battle with throat and stomach cancer.

The actor’s wife, Jean Marinelli, confirmed his passage to The Hollywood Reporter.

Reacting to his death, the actor’s colleague, Mark Duplass who worked with the deceased on ‘The Morning Show’, said.

Judge In Maradona Negligence Case Resigns Amid Scandal

The Argentine judge who caused the collapse of a trial over the 2020 death of football legend Diego Maradona has resigned, her lawyer said Tuesday.

Julieta Makintach’s involvement in a clandestine documentary about the trial of Maradona’s medical team led to the proceedings being scrapped in May after two months of hearings.

No date has yet been set for a new trial.

I have the honor of addressing you in my capacity as judge (…)in order to submit my resignation from my position,” Makintach wrote in a letter to the governor of Buenos Aires that was shared by her lawyer.

Makintach was facing impeachment proceedings over her participation in the documentary about the case against seven medical staff accused of manslaughter over Maradona’s death.

Maradona — considered one of the world’s greatest ever players — died in November 2020 at the age of 60 while recovering from brain surgery.

He died of heart failure and acute pulmonary edema — a condition where fluid accumulates in the lungs — two weeks after going under the knife.

Prosecutor say the conditions of his home convalescence were grossly negligent.

Makintach was one of three judges hearing the case.

Netanyahu Vows To Thwart ‘Any Attempt’ By Iran To Rebuild Nuclear Programme

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Tuesday to crush any attempt by Iran to rebuild its nuclear programme in a national address to the country after 12 days of war.

Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” Netanyahu said after a ceasefire put a halt to airstrikes by the two countries against each other.
