Group Seeks Establishment Of Mobile Court To Prosecute Electoral Offenders

A group known as Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) in collaboration with Edo State Civil Society Organisation (EDOCSO), on Friday, urged the Federal Government to constitute a mobile court for prosecuting electoral offenders.

Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, chairman TMG, who made the call in Benin City, said when the court is established it will serve as deterrent to people planning to engage in electoral malpractices and violence.

This is as she disclosed the group plans to deploy 150 observers across the 18 local government for the monitoring of the election.

“The Mobile Court when establish will try electoral malpractices offenders during electioneering campaign and on election day,”

“Throughout Election Day, TMG’s observers will closely watch the process and complete our election checklist provided by recording answers to the questions on the conduct of the election (set up of polling units, accreditation and voting as well as counting of ballots),” she said.

While expressing displeasure over pockets of violence that characterised the campaigns, she urged electorate to come out en masse to vote for the candidate of their choice.
