Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr. Pius Odubu, has challenged security agencies to fish out with a view to bringing to justice, kidnappers of the state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Barr. Emmanuel Agbale.
Barr. Agbale was kidnapped few days ago on his way to Ekpoma, the headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area, and his police orderly killed on the spot.
The former Deputy Governor, while condemning the rising wave of criminal activities in various parts of the state, recalled that the previous week some persons he regarded as criminal elements were reported to have murdered some farmers in Odighi community, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state, with various degrees of violence, robberies, and kidnappings.
“No efforts should be spared in getting the commissioner released from captivity, as the people of the state are now in perpetual fear in the midst of insecurity. The State must not pay lip service to security as the primary purpose of government is the security of lives and property. I stand to condemn the incessant killings of farmers and other persons, and the rising wave of kidnapping our dear sir,” he said.
Odubu, who is a governorship aspirant in the forthcoming election in the state, lamented that, at a time the people of the state are groaning under the heavy yoke of the scare of the coronavirus pandemic with its attendant of dislocation of social and economic activities, people are facing multiple jeopardies, stressing that this calls for serious and concerted efforts of security agencies, and the government to nip these criminalities in the bud.
“I want to draw the attention of the Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of State Security Services (SSS), and the Army to pay special attention to Edo State. The State government should invest more in protecting lives and property in the state”, he stressed.
