Kidnappers who abducted passengers on Tuesday along Auchi-Benin road have made contact with the families of their victims to demand for ransom before they can be released.
A source who is familiar with the case confirmed to newsmen on Wednesday in Benin that families of the abducted are looking for money to free their loved ones before the Christmas.
The source said: “I can confirm to you that the families of the abducted passengers have been contacted by the gunmen. Some families are already making efforts to raise money to free their people.”
The source also confirmed that other people were also kidnapped apart from those in the bus, while vehicles parked for several house before Ehor as there were also reported cases of armed robbery on the road on that same day.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Chidi Nwabuzor said that the bus belonged to Big Joe Transport Company and that policemen have been moved in to rescue the kidnapped passengers.
He said: “A bus belonging to Big Joe was intercepted by hoodlums refered to as kidnappers. While that was going on, the near by police formation responded, repelled the hoodlums and rescued some passengers with three persons taken away to the bush.
“Investigation is still ongoing involving the police in Ehor and other tactical teams. They started combing the bush the moment the incident happened and hoping that these victims will be rescued,” Nwabuzor added.
