Man In Court For Allegedly Stealing Cell Phones


Edo Police on Friday, June 5, arraigned one Iyenowa Ernest, 20, before an Ogbeson Chief Magistrates’ Court in Benin, for allegedly stealing phones.

The defendant is being tried for stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Charity Asemota, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes between April and May, at Akin street, off Tony Dee and at No 4, Amadi street off Depot pipeline, Benin.

Asemota alleged that the defendant stole the Samsung Galaxy phone valued N43,000 and the sum of N10,000 property of Osaro Uwaifo.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant stole Itel phone valued N24, 000 and Techno phone valued N30,000, property of Amadi Eduwa

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. 11, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Prince Mutairu Oare, however, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety in like sum.

The chief magistrate said the surety must be responsible, adding that information should be verified by the Registrar.

He then adjourned the case until June 16, for further hearing.
