Men Arraigned For Allegedly Stealing Eight Toyota Hiace Bus Engines


The Edo Police Command has arraigned two men before an Ogbeson Chief Magistrates’ Court in Benin for alleged theft of Eight used Toyota Hiace Bus engines

Ayemere Aigbefoh, 27, and Christopher Uche, 42 are being tried on a count-charge of stealing and receiving stolen property respectively.

The prosecutor, Inspector Charity Asemotah, said between March 2019, and May 2020, at Big Joe Ventures Ltd, Aduwawa Quarters, Benin, stole eight used Toyota Hiace Bus engines valued N9. 150.000.00Million property of Big Joe Ventures Ltd.

Asemota also alleged that between March 2019, and May 2020, at Mabletex Hotel , located along Owese Hospital road, Aduwawa ,Benin, the second defendant, Uche did received eight used Toyota Hiace Bus engines, knowing same to have been stolen.

The police prosecutor said the offence contravened the provision of sections 390 (6)(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code laws of the defunct Bendel State of 1976, now applicable in Edo.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Prince Mutairu Oare, admitted the defendant to a N200,000 with two surety in like sum each.

He said that one of sureties must be responsible public servant and depose to an affidavit of means,

Oare also said that the sureties must deposit two recent passport photographs of themselves and that of the defendant.

He added that information about the sureties’ residence and place of work should be verified by the court registrar.

The Chief Magistrate thereafter, adjourned the case until June 22 for further hearing.
