The Chief Magistrate of a family court in Benin, Mrs Adamaigbo Dorothy, Tuesday, remanded a 47-year-old man in Oko Correctional Centre, Benin City, for defiling an 11-year-old minor.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ifidon Daniel, told the court that the accused, Jimoh Imade, committed the offence on Nov. 6, 2019, at Egba community in Uhumwode Local Government Area of Edo State.
He said on the said date, the accused did unlawfully defiled the 11years old girl and was arrested by the police.
The prosecutor argued that the offence contravened section 218 of the Criminal Code , Cap 48, Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, as applicable in present Edo State.
The police Prosecutor objected to bail application on the grounds that the offence is not a bailable offence.
The accused, however, pleaded
not guilty to the one charge of defilement leveled against him.
The Chief Magistrate therefore adjourned the case to May 30, 2020 for hearing.
