Mobile Court Convicts 18 Persons In Edo For Not Wearing Face Mask, Illegal Packing


A Mobile Court in Benin on Thursday sentenced 18 persons  for not wearing face mask and illegal parking.

Out of the 18 persons, 14 were convicted for illegal parking while four were convicted for not wearing face mask.

The Prosecuting counsel, Mr  L M Garuba said that the 18 convicts were apprehended within Benin metropolis, adding that they all pleaded liable to the offences.

Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr.  Mutairu Oare ordered the four convicts who refused wear face mask to pay fine of N2,000 each or carry out community service by clearing drains, grass cutting among others within the King’s Square for one hour per day for two days.

Oare ordered the 12 out of the 14 convicts who were arrested with their vehicles to pay fine of N20,000, while the remaining six convicts who resisted arrest, absconded and abandoned their vehicles should pay fine of N30,000 without option.

The Chief Magistrate Oare said it was in line with the Correctional Centre of non-custodian regulation.
