Moblie Court in Benin on Saturday, sentenced 27 persons for various offences including not wearing of face mask, improper disposal of refuse and trading on walkways.
Among the 27 persons, 18 were convicted for not wearing of face mask, four persons for improper disposal of waste, and five persons for displaying wares on the walk way.
The Prosecuting counsels, Mr A Ayo told the court that the 27 persons were apprehended within Benin metropolis, adding that they all pleaded liable to the offences.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Rusberth Imafidon, convicted the 18 persons who were not wearing face mask to carry out community services for three hours per day in two days, without option of fine.
He also sentenced the four who improperly disposed waste at oba market to carry out community services of three hours daily, for three days, without option of fine.
Imafidon further sentenced other five offenders who displayed wares on a walk-way for sale to three days community services of three hours per day or N5,000 option of fine.
The community service include clearing drains, shrubs, picking of trash, compulsory community sensitisation, grass cutting among others.
The Chief Magistrate noted
that community service was in line with the Correctional Centre of Non custodian regulation.
The Correctional Officers would handle the offenders during the punishment period.
