‘My Husband Abandoned Me, Left Me With Bloodshot Eyes After Punching Me,’ Divorce Seeking Woman Tells Court

A woman, Taiwo, has told Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that she is no longer interested in her 23-year-old marriage to her husband, Isaac, whom she accused of lack of care, irresponsibility, physical abuse and abandonment.

Taiwo stated that Isaac was a brute and that he never stopped beating her.

According to her, he sometimes leaves her with a bloodshot eye and body ache after dealing her heavy punches.

Taiwo also said that he never attended to her needs and that of their children.

According to the plaintiff, the defendant, about three years ago, abandoned her and their children, not leaving a clue as to his whereabouts.

Taiwo begged the court to grant her custody of their only female child, while the other four male children should be handed over to her husband.

She further pleaded that the court mandate her husband to be responsible for their daughter’s welfare, giving adequate attention to her feeding, education, and health care.

Taiwo, in addition, sought an order restraining her husband from threatening, beating, and interfering with her private life.

Isaac was absent in court despite being served court summonses.

Taiwo, in her testimony, said, “My husband and I met in the church, and we started courting.

“We only held an introduction ceremony before I started living with him.

“He did not pay my bride price.

“I never enjoyed our marriage for a day because my husband is wicked.

“He derived joy in beating me.

“My husband descends on me with punches on a regular basis, thus leaving me sometimes with a bloodshot eye and aching body.

“I once packed my belongings and went back to my parents’ house, but I returned to him after much pleading from his family.

“I thought he was a changed man, only to realise that he had gone worse.

“He beat me without mercy.

“He constantly starved me and our children, and we all looked like a scarecrow.

“He beat the more any time I decided that he was up to his responsibility in the home.

“My husband woke up one faithful morning, packed his belongings, and left home.

“He never left a clue as to his whereabouts.

“I work round the clock to meet our children’s needs, and it is gradually telling on my wellbeing.

“My lord, pray the court to end our marriage and grant me custody of our only female child.

“My husband should please be awarded custody of our other male children.

“I, further appeal that my husband be responsible for our daughter’s upkeep giving feeding, education and health care a priority.

“I again request an order restricting my husband from threatening, beating, and interfering with my life.”

The president of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, in her judgment, stated that the defendant was given enough opportunity to defend himself, but that he refused to make use of it.

Akintayo added that the court had no choice but to grant the plaintiff’s her request.

Ruling, Akintayo dissolved their wedlock and granted custody of their daughter to the plaintiff and their sons to the defendant.

Ex-convict Arrested In Edo For Armed Robbery, Possession Of Firearm

The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has arrested a 45-year-old ex-convict, Owen Osas, for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and suspected involvement in a robbery incident.

Osas was reportedly arrested with a cut-to-size single-barrel gun during a covert operation along Fishpond Road in Eyean, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area.

The arrest reportedly comes barely a year after he was released from prison, where he had served time for illegal possession of firearms and other criminal offences.

Osas, who confessed to the latest crime, also admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

Consequently, a victim of an alleged robbery incident, Reginia Izy, identified Osas as the person who robbed her a day before his arrest.

The victim narrated that the suspect had approached her residence around 8 p.m., pretending to be familiar before carrying out the attack.

‎The Deputy Commander Operations of ESSC, Richard Balogun, said the arrest was part of intensified efforts to rid Edo State of criminal elements.

‎Balogun explained that operatives conduct both overt patrols and covert operations to track and apprehend suspects.

He said, ‎“Our men are always on patrol. Some operate in plain clothes as part of covert strategies, while others are stationed at strategic locations.

“Osas, who is a former convict, was arrested with firearms and he also confessed to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity.”

Gunmen Kidnap Businessman In Ibadan

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a 60-year-old man in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The victim was kidnapped on Saturday while on his way to his residence.

The incident occurred at Jinarere, Alakia in Ibadan.

Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

Ayanlade in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, explained that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim.

Ayanlade said, “Preliminary information reveals that the victim, a 60-year-old male and building materials trader, was accosted while returning home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road by four masked armed men, who forcefully whisked him away in an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle”.

Tragedy As Suspected Kidnappers Kill Young Entrepreneur In Edo

A 30-year-old entrepreneur and CEO of Principle Takeout, Justice Abu Oshioke, has been killed by suspected kidnappers in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

He was reportedly attacked by the suspected kidnappers on Saturday while on his way to pick up an order made for his child’s dedication on Sunday morning.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers attempted to force him into a nearby bush in a kidnapping attempt. However, he reportedly resisted and tried to escape.

In the course of the struggle, the assailants opened fire, shooting him multiple times.

Concerned residents quickly rushed him to a nearby medical facility, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The tragic event has turned a joyous occasion into a moment of grief for the family.

The shocking development has left the Ekpoma community in deep sorrow, with many residents expressing outrage over the growing insecurity in the area.

Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem confirmed the incident and said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika has ordered a “full-scale investigation and intensified manhunt for those responsible.” 

According to her, the Police, in collaboration with the military, local vigilantes, and hunters, are actively pursuing the perpetrators through coordinated operations.
