Nigerian Music Legend, Majek Fashek Is Dead

Nigerian singer, songwriter and guitarist, Majekodunmi Fasheke popularly known as Majek Fashek is dead.

Report says the legendary died in a hospital in New York on Monday June 1, though the cause of his death was yet to be confirmed.

Besides his struggle with drug addiction, other health conditions had required his hospitalization on several occasions.

He was rumored dead in September 2019 but his manager quelled the rumors, confirming that Majek had indeed been critically ill, hospitalized at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, England, and in dire need of financial assistance

The “Send Down the Rain” crooner, who was aged 57, was born in Benin City to an Edo mother and a Ijesha father, but identifies with his Benin roots.

Fashek was married to Rita Fashek who inspired the song “Without You”; the couple had four children together, but have since divorced.

In the early eighties Fashek, who at the time went by the stage name Rajesh Kanal, joined the group Jastix with McRoy Gregg, and Drummer Black ‘Rice. They were best known as the in-house band on the show Music Panorama on NTA Benin, and toured with fellow reggae group The Mandators.

In 1988, shortly after Jastix disbanded Fashek, who now used the name Majek Fashek, signed with Tabansi Records and began a solo career by releasing the album Prisoner of Conscience and quickly became Nigeria’s top reggae artist after the song “Send Down The Rain” became the most popular song of the year, and in 1989 he won six PMAN awards for “Song of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, and “Reggae Artist of the Year” among others.

The ‘rain maker’ as he his fondly called has has worked with various artists worldwide including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Beyoncé.

Majek’s life and work are still prominently celebrated by Nigerian music fans and beyond. His legacy of excellence in music and worldwide impact through instrumentation will live imminently.

My First Son Not Interested In Taking After Me – 2Face Reveals Nino’s Ambition

Legendary Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia, popular known 2Face, has revealed that his first son, Nino, isn’t interested taking after him by becoming a musician.

Despite Nino being a talented sax player, his father revealed that his ambition is to become a medical doctor.

The African Queen crooner disclosed this while bringing Nino on stage at an event in Abuja, marking his 25 years in music industry.

“Making some noise for my son Nino, mehn,” he tells the crowd as he brings the lad on stage.

He said he doesn’t want to be a singer. He wants to be a doctor,” he added amid cheers from the crowd.

2Face’s first son, Nino Idibia, was born on January 15, 2006, to him and his former baby mama, Sumbo Adeoye.

Nino is a saxophonist, a model and social media influencer.

Children following their parents’ footsteps is a common phenomenon in the Nigerian music industry.

Wizkid’s first son, Boluwatife Balogun recently launched his musical career at the age of 14 with his debut EP ‘Champions’ Arrival’ under the stage name, Champz.

Grammy winning Nigerian music star, Tems, has revealed what she loves about her colleague, Wizkid.

She made this known during a question and answer session with her fans on X.

A fan @Gbolaha_n9 had asked her one thing she loves most about Wizkid who is her biggest collaborator in the industry.

In response, the songstress stated that she loves Wizkid’s kind heart and his incredible work ethic.

Wema Bank and Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, are set to conclude the Nigerian leg of the 5ive Tour in Abuja on December 14, 2025, after successfully taking the tour through four regions of the country.

The Abuja show marks the latest development in the nationwide rollout of the 5ive Tour, which has so far attracted more than 80,000 attendees across four major cities.

The Nigerian leg of the tour has already made stops in Uyo, Yola, Enugu and Ibadan, covering all four regions in what organisers described as a deliberate effort to ensure diversity, inclusion and nationwide accessibility for fans.
