The Vice Chancellor of the Ambrose Alli University, (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo, has refuted an online media report which allegedly quoted him as saying that the University of Ibadan (UI) certificate of the governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki was fake.

He said while the anonymous writer claimed in the write up that he (vice Chancellor) graduated from UI in 1977, his actual year of graduation was 1982.

He similarly explained that the allegation in the write up that he said the governor had been putting pressure on UI alumni Association to affirm his membership of the university was another falsehood, adding that the governor was a bonafide alumnus of UI, and was a student in Zik Hall.

He therefore called on the public to discountenance every part of the publication, and called on the online medium-Nairaland Forum to retract the story or face legal action.

” We have started investigation into the publication, and the matter has been reported to the DSS, police and we have also reported the matter to other agencies of government to find out the root of the matter.

“It took me by surprise that somebody could quote the Vice Chancellor of  AAU as saying that the certificate of visitor to the university is fake. The executive governor, His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki is distinguished Alumnus of university of Ibadan.

” In fact in 2018 the university of Ibadan Alumni Association  chose him as the distinguished Alumni lecturer, and I accompanied him to Ibadan to that event. So how can I turn around to say that the same governor was now asking me to make him belong to the alumni association?

Williams, who was represented by Babawale Obayanju, Programme Officer, Media and Communication in the organisation, noted ERA/FoEN was not just concerned about attaining zero waste in the state but the need for government to put policy controlling waste in the state.

According to him, managing waste was a culture that all need to imbibe for a clean and healthy environment.

He said as an environmental advocate, ERA/FoEN had developed a seven year zero waste plan that could help the state overcome the environmental challenge.

The executive director regretted that the state did not leverage on the potentials in waste recycling to make fortune for the state and the people.

Plastics generation, he said, was becoming extremely high in the state and would soon begin to negatively impact the ecosystem.

“It is a fact that plastics do not degrade, but it photogrades, the substance which is found in the seas, impose hazard on the fish.

“We may not feel the effect now, but we will soon begin to see it because we all eat fish,” he said.

In his speech, Mr Kessingston Osifo, Chairman Oredo Local Government Area of Edo, described zero waste as a great initiative that all should embrace.

The problem of waste generation, he said, had become a major challenge facing the council as a result of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in unauthorised places.

Also in her goodwill message, Mrs Blessing Ehigiator, Head of Department, Environment in the local government area urged the participants to adhere to the principle of Rs in environment, which include Rethink, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle among others.

Ehigiator, however, sought the support of non-state actors on environment in the area of equipment just as she noted that waste management was always capital intensive.

[BREAKING] Alleged Incitement: Keyamo Petitions DSS, Demands Peter Obi’s Arrest

Published

on

By

Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo SAN has petitioned the State Security Services SSS, demanding the arrest and prosecution for “incitement and treasonable felony”, the Labour Party LP Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates, Messrs Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed respectively for comments he described as incendiary and capable of causing rebellion.

In the petition addressed to the Director General State Services DGSS and dated March 23, the minister who is the Chief Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress APC Presidential Campaign Council PCC said in a post-election period such as this, there is a need to soothe frayed nerves, lower the temperature and begin the healing process.

“The President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued a statement to this effect a few days ago. However, it appears the President and Vice-Presidential Candidates of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed are not prepared to toe this conciliatory path for the sake of peace and national cohesion, whilst exercising their rights to pursue duly laid down constitutional means of addressing their grievances”, he stated.

Keyamo noted that since the declaration of the Presidential election results, the duo have been hopping from one media house to the other making incendiary comments and claims about the declaration of the President-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

According to him, “These comments and claims are made, not just within the boundaries of exercising their rights to freedom of speech and the freedom to air their grievances publicly, but they have since crossed the line to call for the outright truncation of democracy by insisting on the adoption of other processes outside the contemplation of our Constitution.

“In some cases, their privies have even called for the establishment of an Interim Government.

“The latest of such are the comments made by Datti Baba-Ahmed on behalf of himself and Mr. Peter Obi on Channels TV on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, wherein he threatened that if the President-Elect is sworn in on May 29th, 2023, it would ‘signal the end of democracy’. Posing as an accuser, a judge and a jury all by himself, he unilaterally declared the duly elected President-elect as ‘unconstitutional’ and, in a subliminal manner, threatened mayhem if the President-Elect is sworn in on May 29th, 2023.

“I also have it on good authority that Mr. Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed have camped some youths in a popular hotel in Abuja with the sole aim of instructing them to push out inciting messages everyday on social media in order to cause panic and fear within the federation and to incite people to riot and social unrest.

“It is noteworthy that Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed have submitted Elections Petitions to the courts for adjudication, but their conducts and utterances amount to a subversion of the processes they have instituted in court and a subversion of our Constitution and the laid-down processes for addressing disputes and grievances. These conduct and utterances are a build-up to something more sinister and it is important you rein them in now!

“In the circumstance, I submit this petition in my personal capacity as a patriotic Nigerian to invite/arrest, interrogate and after investigation, if necessary, charge both individuals to court for their conduct which amounts to incitement and treasonable felony”.
