Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said over N2billion had been spent to improve access to water in the state within the last three years.
The governor made the disclosure on Tuesday in Benin while delivering an address at the 10th National Conference on Water Conference with the theme, ‘Sustainable Water Resources Development and Management.’
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale, he said that at 4 percent accees to water at inception, the state had moved to over 37 percent as at today
He noted that the feat was achieved through the following concepts: KAMOMI AKETI Accelerated Water Scheme for small towns (reticulated 5km, 100 fetching taps and 100 steel tanks).
He mentioned others to include the KAMOMI AKETI Rural Water Scheme and the KAMOMI Urban Water Scheme (rehabilitation of small dams).
According to him, “The challenges in water, agriculture and health sectors are formidable but they can be surmounted.
“It is my hope that the resolutions that will be reached at the end of this deliberation will be useful towards meeting the challenges inherent in the water supply chain across the country,” he stated.
Similarly, Mr Salisbury Ahmed, Managing Director of Benin Owina River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), expressed optimism that the conference would address some salient issues that have dogged the sustainable management of water resources.
According to him, “At BORBDA, we have over the years expanded our services to our communities through our water supply schemes.
“We have successfully conceived and implemented a number of small towns and rural water schemes through our borehole schemes, powered by generators and solar power sources.
“We are undertaking the rehabilitating of urban water supply schemes in Ewohimi, Edo State; Efon in Ekiti State and Auchi in Edo State.”

He was accused of purchasing MDMA crystals and distributing them to college students and information technology workers.
According to reports, operatives of the Beguru Police arrested Cristian Soporuchukwu in April 2025 for allegedly selling MDMA crystals around Begur Lake and the AECS Layout Road area.
The New Indian Express reported that the High Court of Karnataka subsequently dismissed the Nigerian’s bail application.

“The anti-narcotics wing seized about 1 kg of MDMA crystals, a pocket weighing machine, 10 zip-lock covers, a mobile phone and a scooter from him,” the report stated.
Justice V. Srishananda, while ruling on the bail application, reportedly held that errors relating to the grounds of arrest could not automatically justify bail in serious narcotics-related offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, NDPS, Act.
The court further noted that Cristian Soporuchukwu had allegedly overstayed his visa in India, according to the report.
