Out-of-school Children: Rochas Foundation To Establish Modern Islamic Schools In Six States


Mr Abdulmalik Mahmoud, the Chief of Staff, Rochas Foundation, on Monday, said that the foundation was set to establish one modern Islamic school in six Northern states of Nigeria.

Abdulmalik, who disclosed this in Bauchi when Sheik Ahmad Inyass, leader of Islamic Tijaniyya Sect in Africa paid a courtesy visit to Rochas Foundation College in Bauchi, said that the move was to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the states.

Abdulmalik, also a former deputy governor of Bauchi State noted that the move would curtail banditry, which he observed was caused by the high rate of illiteracy in the region.

The Islamic schools which would inculcate western education on its pupils, would be established in Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Katsina, Kano and Borno states.

“Rochas Foundation is committed to the education of children, especially those from the poorest of poor homes.

“It is on the basis of this that we are working out plans to establish modern Islamic schools in six northern states, so that we can reduce the number of out-of-school children and reduce banditry caused by illiteracy in the region,” he said.

Speaking, Sheikh Ahmad Inyass said he was highly impressed by the philanthropic nature of the founder of the foundation, Sen. Rochas Okorocha by educating young people, especially the indigents, ‘free of charge’.

He urged all the Muslim communities in Nigeria to emulate Rocha Okorocha by spending their wealth in improving the lives of the poor.

“Education gives power to the people, it emancipates people from the shackles of ignorance and backwardness. I urge the founder of this foundation to continue to do more without any political consideration.

“Without considering whether I am from this area or from that area, whether I am from a Muslim community or a Christian community. This is what the holy books enjoin all of us to do,” he said
