Primary School Pupil Bags N21m Scholarship For Scoring 100% In Maths Competition

A young mathematics prodigy, Ugwoezuonu Ogechi Zara, has reportedly been awarded a N21 million scholarship after scoring a perfect score of 100% in the primary category of the National Mathematics Competition organised by the Mathematics Association of Nigeria.

An education activist and Chief Executive Officer of Educare, Alex Onyia, disclosed this on Friday via X while expressing pride in Zara’s exceptional performance.

“Ugwoezuonu Ogechi Zara scored a perfect score of 100% in the primary category of National Mathematics Competition organised by Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN),” Onyia stated.

Accordingly, Zara’s outstanding achievement has secured her a full six-year scholarship at Evergreen College in Enugu.

She has been awarded a full scholarship worth N21 million to study for six years at Evergreen College, Enugu,” Onyia added.

The National Mathematics Competition, organised annually by MAN, is a highly competitive event that attracts the brightest young minds from across the country.

On Monday, six students of Divine Rays British School in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State emerged tops in the just-concluded 2024 National Mathematics Competition, organised by Catalyst Consulting and held across designated states of the country.

Kano Police Foil Attack On APC Chairman’s Residence

The Police Command in Kano said it had foiled an attempt by suspected thugs to invade the residence of the state’s All Progressives Congress Chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas.

This is contained in a statement by the command’s Spokesman SP Abdullahi Kiyawa on Sunday in Kano.

Kiyawa said that on May 31, at around 6 pm, a distress call was received from Chiranchi junction in Gwale Local Government Area of the state.

It was reported that the thugs, armed with dangerous weapons, were pelting people with stones and attempting to enter the APC chairman’s house,” he said.

Kiyawa explained a team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Gwale Division responded swiftly foiling the attempted invasion and restoring normalcy to the area.

He said no arrest was made but investigation has revealed that the incident was a fight between two rival gangs, with the masterminds identified as Abdul’Yassar Alias Jonny, Birbiri, and Jinjiri Aljan.

Kiyawa said efforts are currently underway to apprehend the suspects, saying a “round-the-clock” patrol has been intensified in the area to prevent further disturbances.

“The police are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all citizens in Kano State, and this swift and decisive action is a testament to their commitment to protecting the community,” he said.

‘We have mapped out security measures to enable residents to move on with their legitimate activities without threats to lives and property.

”We are appealing to all law-abiding and peace-loving residents to volunteer timely and credible information on the movement of suspected characters in their midst for prompt security actions,” he added.

You Can’t Disassociate Your Government From Buhari’s Failure, Tambuwal Slams Tinubu

Former governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial Zone, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, has asked President Bola Tinubu to stop using some unsolicited and negative remarks about former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

Tambuwal who was the Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections, stated that from day one, the All Progressives Congress as a party had no plans for securing the country, rather than grabbing power to rule the country.

“The same Tinubu government that has failed to secure Nigerians, and bring development is now lamenting and disassociating themselves from Buhari’s administrative failure.

“There’s no reason for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to allow his aides or ministers to be castigating and attacking past APC government under Muhammadu Buhari which he has tremendously benefitted from as a member of APC.

“President Tinubu should face the governing of Nigeria with serious minded attention and not allow certain myopic tendencies in his government to destroy his good plan on securing of our nation and bringing cohesion and development to our country if at all he is ready,” he said.

Tambuwal, in his remarks during the stakeholders meeting of the PDP in Sokoto State on Sunday, urged PDP supporters in the state not to be discouraged about the happening in the country, instead to unite and ensure political understanding amongst themselves.

“Nobody can change our country like determination and commitment to good cause as we are all known for, our party supporters should be united in bringing such to the party progress

[JUST IN]Strike: N’Assembly, Labour Meeting Ends In Deadlock

A meeting between the National Assembly leadership and the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress has ended without a resolution, paving the way for a nationwide strike on Monday.

The meeting, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajuddeen Abbas, aimed to persuade labour to shelve its planned strike action over minimum wage demands.

Despite appeals from the Senate President, the TUC President, Festus Osifo, stated that the strike will commence as planned, pending discussions with their organs.

“The Senate President appealed to us to call off the strike. But we can’t sit here and call off the strike because we have others organs. We will take the appeals to our various organs.

The meeting was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Budget and National Planning.

Meanwhile, aviation unions have already announced their intention to join the strike and the withdrawal of services at airports.
