Two suspects were on Wednesday arrested by the men of the Edo State Police Command for alleged attempt to kidnap Mr Ralphael Ibodeme, branch manager, Zenith Bank, Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Area of the state.
The security man, Felix Alika after being arrested, along side Basiru Suleiman in Ekpoma accused the manager of organising several bank robberies, which he could not prove.
However, it was gathered that Ibodeme had taken administrative action against Alika over acts of insubordination, which may have prompted the security to plot the bank manager’s kidnap.
Alika was said to have contacted one Akhere who recruited Suleiman. However, Akhere, who had just been released from prison after serving term for kidnapping, buckled and reported the plot to the police.
The police asked Akhere to play along, which led to the arrest of the security man.
When quizzed by the police on his role in the plot, Alika accused the bank manager of robbery before he revealed after further interrogation that he had had a running battle with the bank manager.
The security man said: “I can confirm that I have been having issues with Mr Ibodeme, which led to the plan to kidnap him.”
The state police spokesman, SP Kontongs Bello said that the report of the anti kidnapping squad of the command showed that Alika lied against Ibodeme to avoid being prosecuted.
He said: “The report from anti kidnapping squad in our command said the security guard, Felix Alika lied against Mr Ralphael Ibodeme”.
He assured that the two suspects would be charged to court for attempted kidnapping.
As at press time, the police authority in Edo has ordered extensive investigation into the viral video of the fake alarm raised by the security man.
