Mr Peter, whose opening remarks was read by Mrs. Blessing Abiri, Program Advisor, CLEEN FOUNDATION, noted that in an era where the boundaries of justice are constantly evolving, the training serves as “a compass guiding us towards a future where fairness, transparency and rehabilitation stand as pillars of our collective efforts.”

He added that the training marks a “pivotal moment in our ongoing pursuit of a fair, just , and effective criminal justice system.”

The Executive Director who charged the stakeholders that “as criminal justice actors, each one of you holds a unique role that extends far beyond mere legalities and procedures,” further charged: “You are the guardian of rights, the stewards of due process, and the voices for those who often stand voiceless.”

He, therefore, expressed optimism that the knowledge acquired and the skills honed by stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice will “undoubtedly ripple through courtrooms, correctional facilities, and law enforcement agencies, shaping the very essence of our criminal justice system.”

Meanwhile, CLEEN FOUNDATION’s
performance evaluation of Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) by stakeholders indicates that though stakeholders in criminal justice system have started utilising the ACJL as domesticated in Edo State, much needed to be done in the state.

Feedback from CLEEN FOUNDATION court monitors on the use of the ACJL in Edo State shows that the court appears top of the chart on the use of the ACJL in the state while the Nigerian Correctional Service formerly known as Nigera Prisons comes at the bottom of the chart.

“It is a truism that a calm and friendly environment would stimulate efficient service delivery and enhanced productivity. It is, however, unfortunate to note that my current workspace has become toxic and no longer guarantees a favorable environment to enable me to realize my set targets for the education sector in the state.

“There is a loss of trust, animosity, and sharp division among colleagues in the same cabinet, which is unhealthy and very unfortunate.

“I want to thank Your Excellency for the opportunity to serve in your cabinet and wish you well in your administration.”

The commission, however, pleaded to his supporters and well-wishers to accept his decision to resign from the governor’s cabinet in good faith.

My decision might not go down well with most of you, but it is best given the prevailing circumstances. Many thanks for your understanding,” he wrote on his Facebook.
