UNIZIK Female Student Allegedly Bites Lecturer During Fight

The authorities of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, said an investigation has commenced into the incident that led to biting and fighting between a lecturer and a student of the institution.

An altercation on Tuesday reportedly occurred at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, between a female student and lecturer, identified as Dr Chukwudi Michael, over the interruption of a video recording the student was making.

The incident, it was gathered, led to a brawl between the student and the lecturer at the campus, which eventually caused the female student to allegedly bite the lecturer on the wrist and arm.

It was gathered that the student was dancing and apparently making a “tik tok” video around the corridors when the lecturer passed behind and tapped her on the shoulder, saying, “Excuse me.”

Some eyewitnesses around the scene said, “The student was dancing around the corridors while another person was making her video, but the lecturer, in an attempt to pass, tapped her on the shoulder and said, ‘Excuse me’, while passing behind her.

“But the female student, who apparently did not like the way the lecturer tapped her while expressing her displeasure, reacted by saying, ‘Can you imagine how he just hit me?’

“Shortly after, the development led to a physical altercation between the lecturer and the student, with the student aggressively grabbing the lecturer on the clothes as onlookers tried unsuccessfully to intervene. The situation led to commotion in the vicinity.”

This was corroborated in a viral video circulating on social media on Tuesday, showing when the student was dancing while the lecturer, from the Faculty of Arts, attempted to pass by and said, “Excuse me,” while tapping her. The student reacted by glaring at him and saying, “Can you imagine? He just hit me.”

But reacting to the development in a press statement signed by the Ag. Head, Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Njelita Louis O, the management of UNIZIK, said the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu has already ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident in line with its core values of discipline.

The statement read in part, “The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been made aware of a disturbing incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies.

“The incident, which has gained significant attention on social media, is being taken very seriously by the university authorities.

“In line with our core values of discipline, self-reliance, and excellence, and in adherence to the principles of fair hearing, equity, and justice, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, has ordered a full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation into the matter.

“We urge all concerned parties and members of the public to remain calm as we diligently pursue the truth. The university is committed to upholding discipline and decorum, and we will ensure that appropriate actions and sanctions are taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

“Nnamdi Azikiwe University remains an institution of learning that upholds high moral and ethical standards. There is no place for indiscipline, misconduct, or any form of unacceptable behaviour within our community.”

Security Operatives Arrest Suspects Involved In Kidnap Of AAUA Officials

Security operatives have arrested three suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the abduction of two senior officials of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko AAUA, Ondo State, a few days ago.

The suspects were nabbed a few hours after the release of Omoniyi Eleyinmi, the faculty officer of the institution’s Faculty of Education, who was said to have paid an undisclosed ransom prior to his freedom.

Eleyinmi was abducted alongside a staff of the university last Monday at his residence at Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state.

Following his abduction, the suspected kidnappers initially demanded the payment of N100 million but was later reduced to N7 million ransom.

Sources revealed that the kidnappers were nabbed in a forest within the axis of Oba Akoko and Owo following intel received by detectives in the state.

While confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that the arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation.

“I can confirm to you that our operatives arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the kidnapping of 2 AAUA lecturer.

Unregistered Tanker Loaded With 15,000 Litres Of AGO Tumbles In Oyo

A tanker without a registration number carrying fifteen thousand litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) has tumbled in Iseyin in Oyo State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at Odo-Igba, Iseyin – Saki Road in Iseyin, on Sunday.

The tanker was said to have lost control whilst on motion, swerved off the road and fell into a nearby ditch.

The accident reportedly caused a traffic gridlock but the Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, who confirmed the incident in a statement said normalcy has been restored on the road.

It was a trailer tanker with unknown registered no loaded with 15,000litres capacity of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), that lost control whilst on motion and swerved off the road into a nearby ditch.

The firemen quickly swung into action and applied chemical foam compound to neutralize the flammability of the content and prevented it from explosion.”

The normal vehicular movement has been restored back on the road”.

Police Arrest Suspected Armed Rubbers, Members Of Kidnapping Syndicate In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended four suspected members of an armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate.

In a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command said operatives from the Bori Division, while on routine patrol along Nkpee Street, Bori, acted swiftly upon receiving a distress call regarding suspicious activities by unidentified individuals in the area.

According to Iringe-Koko, the suspects arrested are: Solomon Chris (Male, 26 years), Fabulous John (Male, 26 years), Wisdom Kalongo (Male, 30 years), and Wisdom Samuel (Male, 33 years).

Items recovered from the suspects include “one locally-made revolver pistol, one live ammunition, quantity of hard drugs (loud), criminal charms, one ash-coloured Toyota Sienna vehicle, Registration No. BNY-758FS.”

The statement further noted that the fleeing members of the syndicate are currently being tracked for arrest, while investigations are ongoing to recover additional operational weapons.

It noted that updates will be communicated to the public in due course.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents and urged members of the public to “continue to provide timely and useful information to the police.”
