Published

on

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revealed the reason for the revocation of 167 plots of land in Maitam and other highbrow districts of Abuja.

Recall that the FCTA had announced through a publication in some national dailies that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the revocation of 167 lands in the nation’s capital.

The Administration also published the names and plot numbers of the affected allottees which included the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi; former Governor of Cros Rivers State, Liyel Imoke; Sam Nda-Isaiah, and Donubari Josephine Kogbara.

Speaking with Daily Trust on Friday, the Director of FCTA Information & Communication, Hazat Sule, said the titles were revoked primarily because they were left undeveloped with necessary infrastructure for some years.

He said under the RofO conditions, the allottees in the service areas are requested to develop the plots within two years.

Sule said the affected allottees had failed in that regard, and the Administration would not continue to entertain flagrant abuse of the nation’s capital master plan.

VIDEO: I’ve Been Marked For Elimination As Boko Haram Figure — Sheikh Gumi

Published

on

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has claimed that he was secretly informed by security sources that his name had been listed among individuals allegedly marked for elimination as Boko Haram figures.

Gumi made the claim while addressing his congregation in a trending video, saying he received an early-morning phone call from an unnamed source in Abuja who informed him that his name had come up during a national security meeting.

“They called me from Abuja and told me there was a security meeting. They said I have been marked, that I will be eliminated. And who are Boko Haram?” Gumi queried.

According to the cleric, the caller told him that his name was among those allegedly identified for assassination.

He questioned the narrative surrounding terrorism, suggesting that global powers were responsible for the emergence of insurgent groups.

“Even Americans said they came to fight terrorists, so who are the terrorists? They are the ones,” he said, accusing the United States of playing a role in the rise of Boko Haram.

Gumi further alleged that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and social divisions were fueled by foreign influence, policies and narratives he attributed to United States President Donald Trump.

He claimed that Nigerian political and religious leaders failed to speak out as the country slid deeper into crisis.

According to him, foreign-backed funding and narratives falsely portrayed Christians as the sole victims of insecurity, deliberately sowing division among Nigerians and deepening mistrust between communities.

Because of lies, you brought violence. But where are the leaders? What did they do? What about the scholars? Everyone has gone to hide in their corners.”

The cleric argued that no sovereign nation would accept external interference designed to divide its people along religious or social lines, warning that such actions undermine national unity.

Which country would agree to bring something in just to divide its people? Either you bring all of us together, or you hold us and hand us over to them.”

Gumi accused political and religious elites of abandoning meaningful dialogue, leaving Nigerians with what he described as “noise” instead of solutions, while hardship, oppression and denial of rights continued to worsen.

He warned that fear, silence and division were dragging the country deeper into crisis, stressing that continued inaction by leaders and clerics would further compound Nigeria’s challenges.

“This is the kind of situation we are in. It is dragging the country down,” he added.

Eating Takeout Food Often May Increase Heart Disease Risk — Study

Published

on

Research suggests that higher takeout food consumption may increase a person’s risk of cardiovascular disease, like heart disease.

In a new study, published in Food Science & Nutrition, researchers said eating takeout food too often can influence systemic inflammation that underlies much cardiovascular disease.

The study of over eight thousand people in the 2009 to 2018 U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) found that those who eat greater amounts of takeout food are likely to have various elevated risk factors for heart disease.

They were interviewed in their homes and also visited a mobile examination centre, where they recalled their food intake, received cardiometabolic health assessments, and had blood collected.

The researchers found a correlation between the amount of takeout food a person consumes and their likelihood of developing chronic low-level inflammation, a key driver of cardiovascular pathology.

Deaths from cardiovascular disease and the consumption of takeout foods are both on the rise, and while that does not prove a causal relationship, the study explores whether there is a connection between the two.

The study tracked degrees of systemic inflammation according to the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII), a scale that quantifies the risk of inflammation related to the intake of specific dietary substances.

The three major takeaways from the analysis included that a higher level of takeout food consumption corresponded to an unfavourable cardiometabolic profile consisting of lower HDL, as well as higher triglycerides, fasting glucose, serum insulin, and insulin resistance.

Jayne Morgan, MD, cardiologist and Vice President of Medical Affairs in a reaction, who was not involved in the study, explained that “Takeout food raises the cardiovascular risk not because of one ingredient, but because of a predictable combination of nutrients, additives, and preparation methods that adversely affect blood pressure, lipids, insulin sensitivity, inflammation, and endothelial function.”

This includes excess sodium that increases blood volume and blood vessel stiffness, and unhealthy fats, usually saturated fats or trans fats, that increase cholesterol level and atherosclerosis, a condition that can lead to heart attack and stroke.”

Michelle Routhenstein, Preventive Cardiology Dietitian at Entirely Nourished, also not involved in this study, declared, “It is also important to recognise that frequent takeout use often reflects broader lifestyle pressures such as demanding schedules, limited access to cooking resources, irregular meals, and disrupted sleep, all of which can quietly compound cardiovascular risk.”
