Woman Allegedly Kills Self Over Failed Marriage

A Nigerian woman, Margaret Oyibo Atayi, has allegedly committed suicide over her failed marriage.

The mother of two from Ugbokolo Local Government Area of Benue State was found dead three days after she was declared missing by her family members.

She was last seen around City College Of Education, Abacha road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State at about 3am on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Since then, all efforts to locate her whereabouts proved abortive until her sister, Ochanya Chelle, confirmed that she was found dead on Monday, May 20.

According to her father, Mr. Patrick Atayi, she committed suicide after falling into depression due to her marital crisis.

“Margaret was a mother of two children. She has been in depression for some time now due to mistreatment by her husband,” he explained.

She went out on that fateful Friday morning by 3am without the knowledge of anybody. Her body was discovered in the late hours of Monday, and every available evidence confirmed that she committed suicide.”

A close source who confirmed the incident to Idoma Voice Newspaper said; “This is very unfortunate. In an effort to search for her, I reached out to her father and discovered that she was a mother of two children and that she went into depression for some time, which led to her going out that Friday night at 3 am without anyone’s knowledge, resulting in this unfortunate incident.

“Please, no one should die in silence, no matter the situation you find yourself in. Please speak out; you could be helped and overcome it. Nothing is worth taking your life for or dying for.

Police Arrest 28yr Old Suspected Cultists, Recover Gun In Delta Community

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Special Anti-Cult Unit, SACU have arrested a twenty-eight-year-old suspected cultist, Christian Bugwa.

The Police also recovered from the suspect, one locally made single barrel gun and one live cartridge, DAILY POST reports.

The suspect was arrested at Nsukwa Community in Delta State on 17/06/2024 at about 2100hrs.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe in a statement sent to Our Correspondent in Warri said, “Suspect stated that he is a member of Supreme Eiye Confraternity.”

According to him, “Effort to arrest his other gang members is ongoing.”

Police Neutralise Kidnap Suspect, Arrest 4 Others In Delta

The Police Command in Delta has neutralised a suspected member of a kidnap gang during a shootout in Ughelli North Local Government area.

The command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe told newsmen on Friday in Warri that the other members of the gang escaped during the shootout.

Edafe said that the incident occurred on Thursday near the Adjekota-Ogor communities of Ughelli North.

He said that the team of police operatives deployed by the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Olufemi Abaniwonda, intercepted and engaged the hoodlums resulting in the death of one of the gang members.

Edafe said that the team lead by ASP Julius Robinson, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a criminal hideout on the Ughelli/Patani Road by an abandoned filling station.

The hoodlums on sighting the police opened fire on the team, and the police responded.

“In the ensuing gun duel, one of the hoodlums sustained serious gun shot injuries while others escaped.

“The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment,” he said.

Edafe said that two Beretta pistol and five rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the gang members.

The command’s spokesman said that a manhunt was already underway for the fleeing members of the gang.

Edafe also said that the police special team arrested four robbery/kidnap suspects in Sapele Town on Wednesday.

He said that ASP Robinson led the police team to the suspects hideout in Sapele and effected the arrest.

According to him, one locally made cut-to-size gun was recovered from the suspects.

Edafe said that preliminary investigation revealed that aside the hoodlums’ involvement in cult-related activities, they were also suspected to be armed robbers

The police spokesman said that investigation into the case was ongoing.

Man Arraigned Over Alleged N5.2m Theft

A 36-year-old man, Yetunde Alao, who allegedly stole $5,006 Canadian dollars (about N5.2 million), on Friday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the alleged offences on June 2, at Akeem Balogun Street, Idimu, Lagos.

According to him, the defendant allegedly stole a cash sum of $5,006 Canadian dollars, equivalent of N5.2 million, five Jackets worth N500,000 and an international passport, belonging to one Mr Anthony Alao.

He told the court that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ariyo ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.

She, however, adjourned the case until July 2 for mention.
