Edo Labour Party Confirms Ex-Edo Speaker As Candidate For Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Constituency

… Refutes Claims That National Chairman Collected N30m Bribe From Ativie
The Edo State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, has confirmed the candidature of Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie as its flagbearer for Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency for the forthcoming 2023 elections.
This is as the party refuted the allegation raised in some quarters that national chairman of the party, Julius Abure, collected a bribe of N30m to admit Ativie into the party and gave her ticket for the federal constituency.
In a press conference addressed by the state chairman of the party, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, in Benin on Tuesday, the party said: “He did not take money from anybody,” adding “we challenge those who hold this opinion should come forward with proofs.”
Ogbaloi continued: “The National Chairman who is wholly celebrated, nutured Labour Party along with other patriotic leaders of the party over the last three decades without blemish. He is a complete gentleman and very transparent. He is disciplined and fair. His competence in dealing with public affairs is unequalled.”
According to him, all the allegations are orchestrated by the opposition parties following their determination to stain the “current enviable heights of our party.”
He added: “The State Exco seriously reprimands some of our Local functionaries who on this matter, placed themselves negatively in public view. They did go beyond their constitutional boundaries and this will not be tolerated in Future.”

On the rumour making the rounds that Labour Party is being annexed to Edo State Government House, Ogbaloi said his party remains independent and is not in anyway subjected to the state government.
Also briefing the press, State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Sam Uroupa, said Labour Party is fully prepared for the electioneering, adding that the party would strictly abide by rules guiding political campaign and that the party campaign would be issue-based.
He said with the calibre of candidates field by the party both at the national and state levels, Labour Party would shock many.
