The Ondo State Police Command on Monday confirmed the abduction of Richard Omosehin, who is a former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The police said they had begun a search for the victim while an investigation into the matter had also commenced
It was gathered that the former governor’s aide was kidnapped at his residence in Igbekebo, the headquarters of Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday.
According to a source, the bandits numbering about six, came to the community on a speed boat and went to the private house of the victim where he was dragged into the boat, and they sped off.
The source said, ” The incident happened at about 2am on Saturday. Immediately, people invited the police, but by the time the policemen arrived at the place, the kidnappers had taken the man (victim) away.”
The monarch of Igbekebo town, Oba Simon Dabo, who confirmed the incident on a radio programme, disclosed that the victim was allowed to call his wife from of the den of the kidnapper and the gunmen had demanded a sum of N100m for his release.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said efforts were ongoing to set the victim free unhurt.
“We are already making efforts to rescue the victim and investigation had begun,” the PPRO stated.
Four Suspects Butcher Edo Man, Burn Corpse
The Edo State Security Network says it has arrested four suspects for allegedly butchering a man and burning his corpse in Benin City, the state capital.
The coordinator of the security outfit, Col. Kole Omomia (retd.), while confirming the incident in a statement, said the corpse was found at the former School of Nursing Hostel by the Edo Specialist Hospital, Benin City, following a tip off by a transporter.
Omomia said, “Our men were out on a normal routine patrol and got a tip off that there is a man staying at an abandoned building and no one knows his mission there and that there is a corpse also lying there. My men went there and saw a corpse that had been butchered and burnt.”
Omomia said the four suspects were apprehended and handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, noting that the prime suspect, Nwafor Azubuike, was found at the same building where the corpse was discovered.
He added, “Nwafor Azubuike who claimed he stays in the place, and knows the murdered man and had a chat with him few days ago, was apprehended to be further interrogated.
“Looking at the building itself, we believe it is a den where they carry out most of their nefarious activities. We also discovered lots of human hair around the area, likely belonging to ladies.”

A 53-year-old man, who produces bulletproof charms for terrorists and criminals in Katsina State, is now helping the police with more information on his activities.
SP Gambo Isah, the State PPRO confirmed to newsmen that the suspect resides on Maiduguri Road in Sabuwa Local Government Area in the State.
He added that on Saturday, 26th November, 2022, following a tip-off, the suspect was apprehended by the police in Katsina.
The PPRO further explained that the bulletproof charm is sold to terrorists and other criminals in Zamfara, Kaduna and Katsina States for N60,000 per piece.
He added that the suspect was arrested with four bulletproof charms enveloped in jackets.
The suspect, according to Isah, also confessed that he offered prayers regularly for bandits for successful operations, against being arrested or harmed by security agents.
Airstrike Kills ISWAP Commander In Lake Chad Region
A top commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province, Muhammad Malik, has been reportedly killed by men of the Air Task Force in the Lake Chad region.
Malik died on November 29 following the fatal injuries he sustained during an airstrike by the task force, The Cable quoted Zagazola Makama, a publication focused the region, as saying.
Malik was a member of the Shura Council in Marte before going for a course in ISIS-sponsored Computer Engineering and improvised explosive device making in Somalia.

The Nigerian troops, in a coordinated intelligence-led aerial and ground operation and targeting the location of the terrorists in the Sabon Tumbun area of Lake Chad on November 24, killed scores of fighters.
