Manchester United: Major Reasons Ronaldo Found It Difficult Under Ten Hag – Wes Brown

Published

on

Former Manchester United defender, Wes Brown, has given some major reasons why forward Cristiano Ronaldo found it difficult to adjust since the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils’ new manager.

Ronaldo re-joined Manchester United in 2021 and signed a two-year contract with the Premier League giants.

The Portugal captain ended the 2021-22 season as Man United’s leading goalscorer.

Despite his prowess, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had a torrid time under Ten Hag and hardly got any game time under the Dutchman.

His contract with Man United was terminated by mutual consent last November after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

However, Brown believes that Ronaldo had a hard time under Ten Hag because the former Ajax coach wanted to build a team for the future where the Al-Nassr star would not have fit in.

According to him, Ten Hag kept changing the rules at Old Trafford, which was difficult for Ronaldo.

“When you look at it, you are half thinking what is going on, you know? I mean Ronaldo, I can. I can understand it a little bit. You know, he has been world-class for 15 years. He was top scorer last season, you know he would’ve been looking to play more games, but the manager was looking to change it a little bit obviously,” Brown told Hindustan Times.

“Going forward in the future, Ronaldo wouldn’t have been a big part of that because of his age and football moves all the time. But disappointed in the sense that you know it, it could not work. They could’ve both helped each other with games he played or whether it is if he came on a sub.

“Just disappointed, really and how it all ended and the interview. Ronaldo will always be remembered as a legend in Man United, but obviously, in the last three months, it was difficult for both sides and you know Erik ten Hag is changing the way he works at Man United. He is changing the rules, he is bringing some stability back and it was difficult. It is a difficult time in Ronaldo’s career, it just has to be now and you know, he is strict.”

Egypt Suspends Referee For Using Spectator’s Phone To Review Goal

An Egyptian referee, Mohamed Farouk, has been suspended indefinitely by the country’s FA, for allegedly disallowing a goal after looking at footage on a spectator’s phone, Daily Mail reports.

Mohamed Farouk took charge of an Egyptian Second Division clash between Al-Nasr and Suez on Friday and in the absence of VAR, relied on an alternative system to get a second look at a late goal.

With the hosts Suez 2-1 up heading into the final few minutes, Al-Nasr scored a dramatic equaliser to earn a point on the road.

However, after vociferous protests from home supporters, Farouk was invited to use a fan’s phone to watch a replay of the goal before ruling it out for handball to deny the visitors an away point at Suez on Friday.

Dailymail reports that as a result of his actions, Farouk has come in for hefty punishment, with the head of the Egyptian Referees Committee, Vitor Pereira, deciding to suspend the referee and his entire matchday staff for ‘an indefinite period’.

Pereira replaced former veteran Premier League official Mark Clattenburg in the role with the ERC earlier in March.

Pereira’s action was confirmed by the Egyptian FA, who added, “The committee decided to investigate the incident when Mohamed Farouk, the referee of the match, used a mobile phone to review footage of the match’s events.”

Raji said that the arrival of Osimhen brought the number of players in camp to 22, while Portugal-based defender Zaidu Sanusi was the only player still being expected and should be joining the team on Wednesday.

Napoli Slap £150m Price Tag On Osimhen – Report

Published

Napoli will demand £150million for their star striker Victor Osimhen this summer, according to reports, with Manchester United and Chelsea chasing his signature.

Osimhen is one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe and has turned heads with his clinical displays that have seen him net 25 goals for the Naples outfit and helped them go 19 points clear at the top of Serie A.

A report credited to Il Mattino by Mail Online says Napoli are braced for a flood of offers for the 24-year-old at the end of the season after his dazzling campaign – and have geared up for the interest by slapping a huge price tag on the Nigerian.

The Italian outfit are under no pressure to sell their prized asset – who is under contract until 2025 – with president Aurelio De Laurentiis not interested in sitting down with any club who offers a penny short of the £150m asking price.

It added that Osimhen would be interested in joining United, who had made signing a new striker a priority this summer – but club officials may be put off by the eye-water price Napoli were after.

Erik ten Hag is desperate for more firepower to put his team in touching distance of the likes of Arsenal and Man City – who are the only two sides in the Premier League title race this season.

United are also interested in Harry Kane – but they are already warned that he will set them back £100m this summer, with the Tottenham forward’s contract expiring in 2024.

The Times claimed Spurs will also reject any attempt for United to pay the sum for Kane in instalments as they look to avoid selling to a domestic rival and convince him to sign a new deal – despite the team’s troubling season.

However, he would still remain a cheaper option than Osimhen, with United also keen on RB Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian star has already agreed a move to Leipzig, but United could still hijack the deal.

Mail Online gathered that Chelsea had also been strongly linked with Osimhen. The Blues have spent a whopping £600m on new players under new owner Todd Boehly this season but are still in need of a reliable goalscorer – with Joao Felix and Kai Havertz struggling to provide a regular supply of goals.

Italian outlet Calciomercato recently reported that the Blues have identified Osimhen as having ‘the right profile’ for the club – and that Boehly was planning to offer them cash plus Christian Pulisic in return.

Speaking this month, Osimhen confirmed he would sit down with his agents to discuss his future at the end of the season.
