Ogun APC Congress: Why Obahiagbon Can’t Head Appeal Panel – Amosun Group

Supporters of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun in Ogun State have said a former House of Representatives member from Edo State, Patrick Obahiagbon, is not qualified to head the All Progressives Congress (APC) appeal panel to review the recent state congresses in the state.
This, the group said, was because Obahiagbon attended the Governor Dapo Abiodun factional congress held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Recall that Abiodun and Amosun had on October 16 held parallel state congresses, producing separate party officials in Ogun.
At the Abiodun congress, DAILY POST observed that Obahiagbon went on stage, speaking in support of the governor’s faction.

He described the Amosun group’s factional congress as a show of shame and infamy, saying supporters of the former governor did not learn from history.
In a viral video, the former lawmaker stated at the congress that, “APC as a political party is making and has made a very bold, audacious, scintillating and coruscating statement. That, as a party, we are forever ready to deepen the process of internal democracy in all the nooks and crannies and in all the party structures of our party.
“Don’t be deceived, I’ve read it in the media that some political homosapiens in Ogun State have gathered themselves in another political locust and prepared themselves in what I will call a political ‘Macoza dance’ and a political ‘Alawada show’. History is indeed repeating itself in Ogun State. As students of history, our memory system ‘recalls back’ the show of shame, the show of infamy, when this kind of history repeated itself some years ago. I thought people should have learnt. The only thing man learns is that man does not learn from history.
“I want to congratulate specifically, the governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun, who in spite of these distractions, in spite of these muddy waters, in spite of these eschewable political cataracts thrown at his developmental agenda, has decided to remain as cool as cucumber, as solid as the Rock of Gibraltar. He has displayed exemplary leadership.”
It was not clear why Obahiagbon was at the venue of the APC congress when the exercise was being held same day across the nation.
In a dramatic twist, less than two weeks after the congress, the APC chieftain appeared in Ogun again as the Chairman of the congress appeal committee, promising to be fair and transparent in his duty.
On Thursday, Obahiagbon explained that the panel had concluded its two-day sitting with no petition received from any aggrieved party members in the State.
Reacting, the APC chairman of the Amosun faction, Derin Adebiyi, explained to newsmen that the group would have been seen as ‘unserious’ if it had appeared before a committee led by Obahiagbon.
“How do you expect us to appear before such a committee? It means we are not serious like them,” he said.
Adebiyi queried the rationale behind the appointment of Obahiagbon as the head of the appeal panel, saying, “How could somebody, such a shameless person, who was part and parcel of their congress, who spoke extensively against us, against what we stand for, praising our opponent, yet just a week after you came out to say you are the Chairman of the Appeal Committee, what do you expect from such a person?”

He maintained that, “In fact, it is only God that exposed him and his collaborators because how on earth will such a person even accept that job?
“Of course we believe that our own Congress is the authentic one, so anybody who has an appeal can go and appeal. We don’t have any appeal.”
Meanwhile, Obahiagbon has explained that his presence at the Abiodun’s congress could not vitiate his assignment as the congress appeal committee chairman.

Okpebholo’s Eight-year Tenure Non-negotiable, Says Commissioner

Edo State Commissioner for Youth, Honourable Charity Amayanvbo, has said that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s eight-year leadership mandate is non-negotiable, describing his administration as one that has rekindled hope and unity among Edo people.
Amayanvbo made the statement in Benin City during a courtesy visit by Comrade Kelly Okungbowa, popularly known as Ebo Stone, founder of the Youth for Youth movement.
According to the Commissioner, both the Binis and Edo youths are solidly behind Okpebholo, whose leadership style, he said, has restored dignity to traditional institutions and reaffirmed respect for the revered Oba of Benin Kingdom.

“Governor Monday Okpebholo has restored the confidence of the people in government. He has brought back dignity to our traditional institutions and rekindled the hope of Edo youths. His eight years in office are non-negotiable,” Amayanvbo asserted.
The Youth commissioner commended the governor for what he described as “unprecedented infrastructural strides, especially in Edo South, citing major projects such as the Ramat Park Flyover, the Second Flyover at Adesuwa Road, and the ongoing statewide road rehabilitation as clear evidence of visionary leadership.”
He also lauded the governor for restoring the authority of the Benin Traditional Council and for his bold call to the Edo State House of Assembly to investigate the Mosium for West Africa (MOWA) projects — a move Amayanvbo described as “transparent and accountable governance in action.”

Comparing Okpebholo’s performance with that of his predecessor, former Governor Godwin Obaseki, Amayanvbo remarked that Okpebholo had “done what a Benin man could not achieve.”
He urged Edo youths to rally around the governor, pledging continued support for his developmental vision aimed at building a greater Edo State.
In his response, Comrade Kelly Okungbowa (Ebo Stone) hailed Hon. Amayanvbo for his fatherly leadership and reaffirmed his movement’s loyalty to the Governor.
He pledged to mobilize Edo youths to deliver a 2.5 million-vote bloc in support of both Governor Okpebholo and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assuring that the Youth for Youth movement would stand firmly behind the Governor’s “non-negotiable mandate.”

Hoodlums Set Ablaze ADC Secretariat In Ekiti, Disrupt Party Excos’ Inauguration

There was pandemonium in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Tuesday, after some suspected political thugs set ablaze the state secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the day, razed the party’s office located at Basiri Area of Ado-Ekiti and destroyed several valuables, including plastic chairs, canopies, sound system and office equipment.
It was gathered that the burnt canopies and chairs had been rented for the inauguration of the party’s executives across wards, local government areas, and the state level, scheduled to hold later in the day.
Several hours after the secretariat was razed, the hoodlums regrouped in large numbers and stormed the venue of the planned affirmation ceremony, disrupting preparations and attacking party leaders and supporters.

The attackers who stormed the venue in a commando-like style shot sporadically into the air, forcing several members of ADC, journalists, as well as passersby to scamper for safety.
In the ensuing melee, several vehicles and motorcycles belonging to journalists were severely vandalised, while canopies and chairs arranged for the programme were destroyed beyond repair.
Fifteen minutes after the hoodlums fled the scene, the ADC National Secretary, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, arrived at the venue amid tight security and proceeded with the inauguration of the newly affirmed executives.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the brief inauguration of party executives, the former minister condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as a shameful display of intolerance and a dangerous threat to democracy.
Aregbesola said that it was regrettable that individuals who emerged through democratic process could resort to violence and intimidation to suppress opposition voices.

“It is difficult to adequately express the disappointment, don’t forget in 2009, the incumbent administration in Ekiti then did undemocratic actions and we felt that victims of such irresponsible and anti-democratic actions would now be in office to replicate such wickedness in the state,” he said.
The former Osun State governor noted that the beauty of democracy lies in the freedom of association and participation in open political activities without fear or intimidation, saying the attack on ADC members in Ekiti signalled a descent into fascism.
Aregbesola also berated the security agencies for failing to protect the ADC secretariat and its members, accusing them of dereliction of duty.
“The security agencies must protect lives and property, and when they fail to do so, they are violating the Constitution. Interestingly, the security acts make it compulsory to do so, and failure to do so exposes all of them as being compromised,” he said.
Former Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, also condemned the incident, describing it as an act of political terrorism.

He said the incident was unfortunate and represented a dangerous assault on the democratic values and freedom of political association, lamenting that such acts of violence were creeping into Ekiti politics, a state once known for peace and tolerance.
The former deputy governor criticised the security agencies for what he called a disappointing response to the attack, saying the police failed to act promptly despite early reports.
“What has happened today in Ekiti State is what we call political terrorism, and it is quite unfortunate that this is happening in our state. This is against the principle of democracy that we are all preaching.
“We have made reports to the police through the state party chairman, and let me say that we are let down by the security agencies because more than two hours after we made reports on the midnight attack on our secretariat, we observed that they were not there to protect the property and the people,” he added.
When contacted, the Ekiti State Police spokesman, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident.
He said the command is aware of the incident. The Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has directed a full-scale investigation in a bid to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.l

Oshiomhole Criticised For ‘Eating Own Vomit’

Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has been criticised for ‘eating his vomit” after he distributed motor-cycles, grinding machines, sewing machines and money as constituency project.
A former lawmaker and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo North, Hon Segun Saiki, in an interview with journalists reminded the former Edo governor
of how he berated federal lawmakers for impoverishing the people by sharing sewing machines, motorcycles, as constituency project.
Recall that Senator Oshiomhole, in an interview he granted before his election to the National Assembly, promised to restructure the whole idea of constituency project.

Oshiomhole had said during the interview before his election: “I don’t want to go to the Senate for business as usual. I have seen my Senator gave out grinding machine and motorbike as empowerment.
“That is more offensive. How are you empowering a young man in his 20s with a motorbike? You are destroying him. I think the government must refocus the long term strategy to empower the people.”
But the PDP chieftain said Oshiomhole swallowed what he had vomited by doling out grinding machines, motorbikes, sewing machines and N100,000 as constituency project.

“It is like somebody vomiting and swallowing it back. Which constituency project is he doing after two years in the Senate. What can anybody buy with N100,000 in this present economy? Oshiomhole only gave money to people that visited him.”
Contacted, Media Aide to Oshiomhole, Victor Oshioke, said his principal built classroom blocks, market stores besides the items distributed.
“What Oshiomhole meant was that a Senator should not be judged by sharing items but by enduring legacies and jobs created.”
