Group known as Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria (NRHJN), Edo State chapter, has called on concerned authorities particularly Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and the state Police Command to immediately fish out the killer of Uwaila Omozuwa.
Omozuwa, a 100Level Undergraduate of the University of Benin was raped and murdered on Friday, May 29th, at the premises of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), while reading in preparation for the ease of the lockdown and the consequent re-opening of schools.
The NRHJN, in a statement signed by the state Coordinator, Joy Olabisi Akpaida, which was made available to INFO DAILY, described act of rape as Gender-Based Violence and Violation against humanity and womanhood of Omozuwa.

While affirming that no woman, girl or anyone should suffer Sexual Violence or have their dignity violated by another without facing the legal implication and consequences as stipulated by Laws and Acts of Nigeria, the group demanded appropriate Justice for the deceased.
“As Advocates of Stop Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), we affirm that no woman, girl or anyone for that matter, should suffer Sexual Violence or have their dignity violated by another without facing the legal implication and consequences as stipulated by Laws and Acts of Nigeria”, NRHJN added.
According to the group, Omozuwa, until her untimely death was a promising young girl and an ideal role model in the Nigerian educational system, stressing that despite the Federal Government restriction order placed on schools and the tertiary education, she kept on studying in preparation for the ease of lockdown on Schools.
The NRHJN stated that, as domesticated in Edo State, 2019, the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act 2015, the appropriate machinery to prosecute the culprit of the dastardly act against Late Osazuwa should be applied.
