Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Yankari Games Reserve become the centre of tourism in the world.
The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Modibbo Ahmed, dropped this hint in a press statement issued to journalists in Bauchi on the celebration of the 2020 World Wildlife Day.
The theme of the 2020 World Wildlife Day is “Sustaining all Life on Earth.”
Ahmed said currently the state government, through its ministry, is working with some development partners with a view to investing in Yankari Games Reserve and Sumu Wildlife park.
The Commissioner who said government alone cannot run its tourism centres, observed that, their support would assist in developing and advancing the sector in the state.
According to him, the ministry has seek the intervention of the Ambassador of Namibia as part of efforts to supporting the supply of animals to Sumu Wildlife park.
He said, “We celebrate the live of our Animals and plants, without animals we are no where. Let’s work together to ensure their protection.
“The incalculable value of wildlife, the animals and plants that live in the wild have an intrinsic value and contribute to the ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic aspects of human well-being and to sustainable development.”
The Commissioner, while applauding investors for declaring interest to invest in hotel and tourism in the state, reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of animals in addition to their integration into biodiversity.
Ahmed used the medium to appeal to people of the state especially those residing around Yankari Games Reserve to assist government in the protection of the animals.
