BREAKING: Oba Of Benin Bans Ex-Chief Servant Over Alleged Impersonation, ‘Sacrilegious Acts’

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has banned one Roland Ogbebor a former Omuada (chief servant) to his Royal Majesty for alleged impersonation of the palace and other “sacrilegious acts.”

His ban follows an alleged installation of Enogie, Ohen and Okao in Benin kingdom after he was relieved of his position by His Royal Majesty in 2018.

He was said to have also Involved in land grabbing, extortion, intimidation, impersonation and fraud since his suspension.

Reading a prepared statement in Benin on Tuesday to announce the formal banning of the Omuada on behalf of the Benin Monarch, Mr. Frank Irabor, Secretary, Benin Traditional Council, BTC, disclosed that the ban is “extended to his participation at all Oba Palace traditional establishments and functions, including spiritual groups, activities, festivals, shrines and, oguedion in Benin Kingdom.”

According to Irabor, since his suspension as the Omuada, Ogbebor has been acting “as a wolf in sheep clothing and confidence trickster”

Irabor, who was flanked by prominent Benin chiefs in solidarity at the briefing, noted that the formal Omuada also involved in what he described as “aborminable and sacrilegious” act of parading himself as the second in command to His Royal Majesty.

“Furthermore, he paraded himself as deputizing for Palace Authority to the extent of being addressed in an abominable manner as the second in command to His Royal Majesty. This is sacrilege and abomination, punishable by customary laws of our tradition.

“He has also behaved in treacherous ways to the Throne that is akin to being a traitor. He has been able to do this by disguising himself as a wolf in sheep clothing and confidence trickster. He was of the opinion that his services to the Throne were indispensable.”

While noting that there is an ongoing overhauling of the palace administrative system that would put an end to such act exhibited by Ogbebor, Irabor urged members of the public who may have issues with Ogbebor that has to do with land grabbing to report to concerned security agencies copying the palace.

“Finally, any person or village or community that has issue with Roland especially on land grabbing, extortion, intimidation, impersonation and fraud, is strongly advised to send written complaints to the Secretary, Benin Traditional Council, or the Police, or Department of State Services and, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, copying Benin Traditional Council,” he said.

Nigerian Arrested For Overstaying Visa In Thailand

Police have arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian man, Benjamin Chiemelie Ene, on the tourist island of Koh Phangan, Surat Thani Province, for overstaying his visa by nine months.

Pol Lt Col Winit Bunchit of the Tourist Police in a statement on Saturday, June 1, 2024, said officers were acting on complaints from local residents that a foreigner claiming to be an influential person from Nigeria was asking for free food and accommodation.

When police located the suspect he tried to run away, but they pursued and arrested him

Officers found that Ene had overstayed his visa by 276 days.

He was taken to the Koh Phangan police station for further legal action.

The fine for a visa overstay is 500 baht per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 baht.

Meanwhile, residents of Koh Phangan expressed relief following Ene’s arrest, as they claimed his behaviour had caused significant concern in the local community.

Many local businesses said they were wary of his intimidating tactics, particularly his assertions of possessing influential connections in Nigeria to gain free services.

Nigerians Stranded In Chad After Air France Flight Disruption

Nigerian passengers on an Air France flight from Paris to Abuja are currently stranded in Chad after an unexpected flight disruption.

The aircraft, which had earlier made a stop in Chad to drop off some passengers, left the Nigerians stranded.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Saturday.

Keyamo wrote, “It has come to my attention that some Nigerians on an Air France flight from Paris to Abuja are presently stranded in Chad, from where the flight earlier dropped some passengers.”

The minister said he has directed the Consumer Protection Department of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to engage with Air France urgently to resolve the issue.

“I have immediately directed the Consumer Protection Department of NCAA to swing into action and engage Air France. We shall inform everyone of the outcome soon,” the minister stated.

He also urged Air France’s Nigerian branch to promptly state the fate of the stranded Nigerians and the measures being taken to assist them.

“I urge @AirFranceNG to immediately issue a statement on the fate of those Nigerians,” he added.

This incident comes barely a month after some Nigerians on an Air France flight were left stranded for over 14 hours in Paris in April.

The delay caused frustration among passengers, with allegations of disrespect and discrimination levelled against the airline.

Following the delay, the NCAA announced that it had initiated an investigation into the incident.
