NEDC Graduates 176 Youths On ICT In Bauchi

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), on Tuesday graduated 176 youths trained on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Bauchi State.

The commission also gave the youths trained on computer graphics and cell phone repairs, some starter kits and the sum of N20,000 naira each to encourage them establish their businesses.

The Managing Director of the NEDC, Mr Mahammed Alkali, did the formal presentation of certificates and starter packs to them in Bauchi as well as official launching of NEDC ICT resources Training Centres across the six NorthEast states.

He said the commission recognised that technology was critical to developing a knowledge-driven and prosperous economy.

He said the overall objective of the NEDC ICT programme was to improve access to Information Technology resources, within the North East zone and to empower the population with necessary vocational education, skills and tools that could make them self-reliant.

“The commission recognised that technology is critical to developing an inclusive, knowledge-driven and prosperous economy. We are in an ICT era that all sectors of human endeavour heavily depend on to make any tangible impact.

“The overall objective of the NEDC ICT programme is to improve access to IT resources within the NE zone and empower the population with the necessary vocational education, skills and tools that can make them self-reliant.

“We admitted 1,200 youths in the first batch of this programme and I am happy to inform you that from this number, 176 trainees from Bauchi state are graduating today.

“This is the second highest number of candidates that successfully completed the training from the six centres in the North East,” Alkali said.

The managing director, who congratulated the graduants as the first set of NEDC ICT training beneficiaries, said that the commission would monitor their progress in order to reward those who fared well on their jobs.

“I am optimistic that you are now fully equipped with ICT skills of computer graphics and cell phone repairs. To mark the successful completion of the training, each of you will be kitted with a free starter pack and the sum of N20,000 to enable you hit the ground running.

“The commission will monitor your progress in the coming few months to reward those who may fare well on their jobs,” he said.

Also speaking, Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, said that President Muhammadu Buhari had written his name in gold for establishing NEDC.

“We have seen the display of intervention, collaboration and synergy between the federal government and the state governments of the North East.

“We must say today that Mr President has written his name in gold by the establishment of the North East Development Commission,” he said.

Mohammed further announced that the state government, in order to strengthen capacity of the graduates would give them N50,000 each.

Speaking to newsmen at the sideline of the event, Albashir Dankyarana, one of the graduates said words alone could not express how happy he felt towards the gesture, expressing gratitude to God, NEDC and governor Mohammed.

He promised to make good use of the starter pack and the money given to him by both the NEDC and Bauchi State Government and would not hesitate to impart the knowledge on other unemployed youths.

LAUTECH Resident Doctors Suspend Strike

The Association of Resident Doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has suspended its indefinite strike after two months.

The doctors announced the decision on Wednesday in a letter to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olakulehin Olawale, citing assurances made by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, during his visit to the hospital on Tuesday, September 30.

They confirmed that clinical services will resume by 8 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, but stressed the need for sustained government commitment to resolving their demands.

The strike, which began on July 29, was triggered by poor working conditions, inadequate medical equipment, and welfare-related issues.

For weeks, patients in Ogbomoso and neighbouring towns were forced to seek treatment elsewhere, with emergency and specialist services at the teaching hospital largely unavailable.

Their letter was signed by ARD President, Dr. Adedokun Stephen, and General Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Adedapo, the doctors said:

It read: “On behalf of the Association of Resident Doctors, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, we write to formally notify the hospital management of the suspension of our two-month industrial action following an Emergency General Meeting of the congress on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

“This decision was reached in honour of the visit of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Executive Governor of Oyo State, to our institution on September 30, 2025, and in recognition of his sincere commitment to resolving the longstanding demands of our association. His engagement with stakeholders and the assurances given during the visit have been received with optimism and goodwill.

“Accordingly, members of ARD LAUTECH Teaching Hospital will resume full clinical duties by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

“We look forward to a renewed spirit of collaboration with the incoming hospital board, as we collectively work towards meeting pending demands and repositioning LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in line with the mandate and vision of His Excellency.”

The suspension of the strike comes as a major relief to residents of Ogbomoso, who rely heavily on the teaching hospital for affordable care.

Israeli Mission To Bolster Wellbeing Of Orphans In Nigeria

The Israeli Embassy in Nigeria has promised to bolster the wellbeing of orphans in Nigeria.

Deputy Chief of Mission of the embassy, Inbar Garden stated this in Abuja while donating food items to the Hope for Survival Orphanage, Gishsiri community, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

She said aside helping to promote collaboration between Nigeria and Israel, the mission is committed to supporting the wellbeing of the orphans.

Garden said, “We just want to ensure the orphans have a better future and not taken for granted.

“It takes a person with a giant heart to give themselves to the society and make other peoples life matter.

According to her, even for you to come here is not easy due to the deplorable road to the orphanage.

“God bless and enrich you for putting smiles on our faces, this is good, because we have never seen such a large cooking of meal like this in our orphanage,” Ibrahim said.

She decried lack of access to medical services and paucity of funds toward the construction of fence around the orphanage, to be major challenges they faced.

The orphanage have 67 children, with two having graduated from university and eight of them are currently in SS3, preparing for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exam.

The highpoint of the event is a treat for the children at the orphanage to a buffet by the Israeli deputy chief of mission.

Isokpan Sworn In As Egor LG Vice Chairman, Pledges Loyalty to Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda

The Egor Local Government Council Secretariat was abuzz on Monday as Hon. Kenny Isokpan was officially sworn in as the Vice-Chairman of the Council, in a colourful ceremony attended by party leaders, stakeholders, and community groups.

The event drew a large gathering, including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Hon. Plus Alile, alongside other prominent political figures.
